Curtin’s School of Population Health is a comprehensive academic school that delivers a range of undergraduate courses and numerous specialist postgraduate courses in public health and psychology.
Curtin’s Faculty of Health Sciences has four academic schools that deliver a range of undergraduate, postgraduate and higher degree by research (HDR) courses.

About the role  

The role(s) will work with a multidisciplinary team of researchers in geological science, fossil geochemistry, geomicrobiology, atmospheric monitoring and statistical science, led by highly distinguished specialists in each of these fields.
You will join a statistical team coordinated by distinguished professors Adrian Baddeley and Noel Cressie, which plays a pivotal role in the design and conduct of the Murujuga Rock Art Monitoring study. https://www.wa.gov.au/service/aboriginal-affairs/aboriginal-heritage-conservation/program-murujuga-rock-art

You will be involved in a wide range of statistical data analysis, experimental design and sampling design, according to your abilities and training. Activities include the design and analysis of controlled laboratory experiments with rock samples; spatial analysis of geological and geochemical observations; space-time analysis of air quality measurements; and space-time analysis of observations of the condition of the rock art surfaces and their immediate environment.

Responsibilities will include

In this role you will be involved in a wide range of statistical data analysis, experimental design and sampling design, according to your abilities and training. Activities include:

  • design and analysis of controlled laboratory experiments with rock samples.
  • spatial analysis of geological and geochemical observations.
  • space-time analysis of air quality measurements.

  • Appropriate training and supervision from experts will be provided, along with opportunities to participate in publication of the statistical methodology and the study results.
  • Publication of results in reports and scientific journals.
  • (co)supervision of PhD students.

We are looking for someone with

  • A PhD in Statistics or a closely related field.
  • A demonstrated track record of high quality outputs in applied statistics, ideally with applications in one or more of spatial science, (micro)biology, geology/geochemistry, ecology or air quality.
  • Demonstrated experience working in multidisciplinary teams and subject matter experts.
  • Significant expertise in R and/or Python.
Desirable
  • PhD Supervision experience.
  • A body of high impact research outputs.
  • (Senior positions) Experience managing a team of more junior statisticians.
