College of Medicine & Public Health
The Senior Research Fellow will collaborate with all stakeholders. The position will take a lead role in developing, managing and implementing health data-related research projects and in expanding the College’s research activities through the attraction of external grants and research contracts, delivering on strategic research objectives, establishing and maintaining industry and research partnerships, identifying commercially relevant outputs and building the University’s national and international reputation through high quality output and strong research collaborations.
The Senior Research Fellow will provide direct management over the establishment and development of the data-related aspects of the Health Data and Clinical Trials team, both virtual and physical.

Key Position Responsibilities

The Senior Research Fellow in Health Data & Clinical Trials is accountable for:

• Making a significant contribution to ethical, high quality and innovative research through sustained impact at national/international levels, external research grants and contracts, high quality publications, and mentoring/supervising both student and staff researchers.

• Overall responsibility for the successful planning, strategy, and execution of complex data-related projects and activities, in regards to cost, resources, training and performance management, problem-solving, change management, reprioritisation, schedule, quality, expectations, and objectives met in alignment with team objectives and ICH-GCP/21CFRpart11 guidelines.

• Development and delivery of data-related activities and documentation, including survey/database builds and analyses (R, Python, RedCAP, SQL, STATA, SPSS etc), data definitions/standardisation across differing datasets, CRFs, datasets, collection, linkage, cleaning, deidentification, mapping, harmonisation, data forecasting/extrapolation/analysis/reports, advice and production of key performance metrics, grant and ethics applications, data management plans, study reports, presentations and publications.

• Data and analysis-related advice to both internal and external stakeholders to enhance their understanding and use of data requirements, definitions, documentation and programming code, whether via education sessions, reports, newsletters, or other.

• Contributing to research leadership by fostering research excellence and making a significant contribution, in a leadership capacity, to the management and administration of research in the University, and developing and maintaining, in a leadership capacity, productive strategic local, national and international relationships, collaborations and networks with all internal & external stakeholders.

• Any other responsibilities in line with the level of the position as assigned by the Supervisor and/or the University.

Key Position Capabilities

• Completion of a PhD or equivalent in Medicine or other field relevant to the role.

• Demonstrated evidence of an outstanding research track record (for career stage) in data, including evidence of sustained high quality research output consistent with the University’s vision and expectations,

• Demonstrated track record of supervision and mentoring of early & mid-career academics and/or students.

• Extensive demonstrated experience of managing and delivering large, concurrent research health data projects to deadline and quality, in a complex, diverse and dynamic environment, with adaptability and ability to drive change and innovation, and using independent judgement and initiative under minimal supervision.

• Demonstrated high level strategic planning, negotiation, analysis and communication, including analysis and succinct summarisation of complex research data for effective communication and research collaboration.

• Development and delivery of data-related activities and documentation, including survey/database builds and analyses (eg via R, Python, RedCAP, SQL, STATA, SPSS etc), data definitions/standardisations, CRFs, datasets, collection, linkage, cleaning, deidentification, mapping, harmonisation, data and project forecasting/extrapolation/analyses/reports/advice, production of key performance metrics, grant and ethics applications, study and data management plans, reports and presentations.

Prescribed Conditions of Employment

Pursuant to Child Safety (Prohibited Persons) Act 2016 (SA) this position has been deemed prescribed. It is an inherent requirement of the position that the successful candidate maintains a current Working With Children Check which is satisfactory to the University.
