Caring Futures Institute
This position is a joint appointment between the Caring Futures Institute and Wellbeing SA. This strategic appointment will contribute to the research success and research impact of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences and the Caring Futures Institute. This appointment will also contribute to the development, co-ordination, and delivery of the WBSA early years priority area as part of the Wellbeing SA Strategic Plan 2020–2025.
The Senior Research Fellow will co-ordinate and lead strategic research aligned to the Caring Futures Institute and Wellbeing SA Public Health Partner Authority (PHPA) Agreement. The PHPA Agreement between the CFI and Wellbeing SA outlines the areas for collaborative action and high-level outcomes of the partnership. The Agreement commits the two agencies to work in collaboration to shape an evidence-informed Early Years system that supports parents and caregivers for improved child health and wellbeing. This will be achieved through a combination of applied research, policy action, programmatic responses, research translation and capability development.
The position will provide leadership through collaborative implementation of a work plan to support action under the PHPA Agreement and priority areas of focus for both Wellbeing SA and the CFI. The position will be responsible for engaging with CFI leadership, theme leads and researchers, Wellbeing SA leadership and staff as well as other government agencies, industry, and organisations; building strong and productive relationships, strengthening research collaborations internally and externally and producing high quality outputs.
The Senior Research Fellow will receive broad supervisor direction from the Deputy Director – Caring Futures institute and strategic advice from the PHPA governance group. In addition, the position will work closely with the PHPA Management Group to support the implementation and evaluation of the PHPA workplan in line with the PHPA Agreement.
Key Position Responsibilities
The Senior Research Fellow is responsible for:
Leading and coordinating the collaborative implementation of an annual work plan, including the development of project specific proposals that articulate clear actions and deliverables that support the intent of the PHPA Agreement between Caring Futures Institute and Wellbeing SA
Ensuring the timely and effective coordination, implementation, and evaluation of the work plan.
Working in collaboration with Wellbeing SA to establish, maintain and support relevant governance structures described under the PHPA agreement
Pursuing deliverables in line with university expectations aligned with employment level including making a significant contribution to ethical, high-quality and innovative research through activities such as sustained high quality publication, external grant acquisition, mentoring and developing early career researchers and knowledge translation and dissemination quality.
Taking a lead role in identifying, coordinating, and obtaining external funding opportunities.
Actively supervising and mentoring students undertaking Research Higher Degree studies.
In a leadership capacity developing and maintaining strategic relationships, collaboration, and networks with a range of stakeholders including industry and external organisations, with an increasing national and/or international focus.
Significant contribution at a leadership level to the integration and management of aspects of the research and administrative life of the College.
Other priorities that support the intent of the PHPA agreement, as agreed by Caring Futures Institute and Wellbeing SA.
Any other responsibilities in line with the level of the position as assigned by the Supervisor and/or the University.
Some work after hours, weekends or interstate travel may be needed.

Key Position Capabilities
Completion of a PhD or equivalent in nutrition and dietetics, exercise science or human movement, child obesity prevention, public health, health services research, health psychology, knowledge translation, implementation science, or a health-related discipline.
Demonstrated experience and successful track record in supervision of higher degree students.
Demonstrated evidence of a strong research track record (for career stage) in an area aligned to the research strengths in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences and the Caring Futures Institute , particularly, Healthy Start to Life, including evidence of sustained high-quality publications with first authorship and attraction of competitive grants.
Experience in a senior academic or research leadership position with relevant research project management experience.
Demonstrated ability to use independent judgement and initiative, under minimal supervision, to manage, organise and coordinate activities required for the functioning of a research-intensive unit.
Demonstrated experience in developing and maintaining links with industry or research end-users and effective research collaborations.
Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills, including the demonstrated ability to establish effective relationships with staff, students, and industry nationally and /or internationally.
Knowledge of the intellectual property, knowledge translation and/or the commercialisation process in relation to a research environment.
Prescribed Conditions of Employment:
It is a requirement of this position that the incumbent maintain a current Child Related Employment Screening which is satisfactory to the University in accordance with the Child Safety (Prohibited Persons) Act 2016 (SA).
If you are required to work in any capacity, incidental or not, in a health care setting or other setting identified within a government direction issued pursuant to the Emergency Management Act 2004 (SA) or Public and Environmental Health Act 2011 (NT) you will be required to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and provide proof of your vaccination as a condition of your employment.
