About This Opportunity 

The Targeted Protein Degradation laboratory is interested in understanding the signal transduction pathways that are mis-regulated in disease. The primary purpose of this position is to provide support for research projects investigating the regulation of mitochondrial quality control by ubiquitin ligases.

The appointee will also be expected to maintain the laboratory and to contribute to the broader commercial and academic research interests of the group.

Key responsibilities will include: 

  • Undertakes advanced elements of research, in accordance with scientific/research discipline or methodology.

  • Applies specialist technical skills or knowledge to research activities. 

  • Under broad direction, sets up, monitors, and demonstrates standard experiments and equipment use.

  • Maintains accurate records of experiments or technical activities and results/outcomes.

  • Adjusts equipment to general specifications.

This is a part-time (minimum 50% - maximum 80%), fixed-term position for up to 12 months. The contract end date is based on current funding arrangements. Usual discussions will occur prior to this date as to the likelihood of continuation of this funding.

At HEW level 6, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $88,099 - $94,512, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $103,076 - $110,579 annually. As this role is covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases – at least once a year.


About You  

We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated Senior Research Technician to apply their subject matter expertise in mitochondrial quality control and advanced knowledge of mitochondrial degradation within the Targeted Degradation team.

  • An undergraduate degree in cell biology, genetics, molecular biology, or biochemistry

  • Experience with tissue culture, Western blotting, fluorescence microscopy, molecular biology techniques.

  • Experience preparing common laboratory buffers and reagents.

  • Demonstrated ability to plan and conduct quality research.

  • Demonstrated ability to use a wide range of computer applications used in laboratories.

  • Excellent record keeping skills and a strong work ethic.

  •  Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Demonstrated ability to follow instructions, communicate results, work in a safe manner according to provided instructions. 

  • Advanced knowledge of mitochondrial quality control pathways.

  • Well-developed problem-solving skills, with an ability to forward plan, prioritise tasks to meet deadlines and work with a high level of adaptability, both independently and as part of a team.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with proven ability to produce clear, succinct documentation.

  • The ability to liaise effectively with a wide range of stakeholders in a research environment.
