The Opportunity
The School of Chemical Engineering has an opportunity for a Senior Project Officer. This is a key role in the Particles and Catalysis Research Group in the Faculty of Engineering, providing practical and efficient project management and executive support to the Particles and Catalysis Research Group Director, as well as high level administrative and operational support for group activities. This is a critical role to support the day-to-day running of a large and complex research group and special projects such as the Power Fuels including Hydrogen Network (PFHN) within the NSW Decarbonisation Hub (NDIH), and the ARC Training Centre for the Global Hydrogen Economy (GlobH2E).

You will provide project management and support, reporting, financial and analytical support, developing communications, build key internal and external relationships, and provide high level administrative support for key programs and projects to ensure the smooth operation and successful implementation of programs. This is a highly collaborative role where you will be required to engage with project leads and Research Manager to assist with project management and administration within the Group.

This role reports to the Scientia Professor Rose Amal, the Lead of Power Fuels Network and the Business Development Manager of PFHN and has no direct reports.

  • Salary, Level 7: $106,351 to $115,103 per annum + 17% superannuation
  • Full time, fixed term contract – 12 months initial appointment
  • Location: Kensington – Sydney, Australia

Skills and Experience

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and experience in project support, administration or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through any other combination of education, training and experience.
  • Knowledge and experience of working in a tertiary education context will be highly regarded.
  • Proven experience in coordinating and reporting multiple projects into a program structure.
  • Proven experience in working with project stakeholders to identify project barriers.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate with and influence diverse stakeholders.
  • Self-directed and proactive, with a demonstrated ability to work effectively with minimum supervision.
  • Superior time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
  • Proficient computer skills with experience and knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience maintaining databases and website content or willingness to learn with a keen attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated project management experience delivering projects within agreed timeframes and budget.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
