About the Group

Property Services Group is located in the Operations Portfolio which is the services nucleus of RMIT and the focus for the development of the finance, people development, infrastructure and systems that provide administrative capacity to the University.

Property Services has approximately 90 staff and has the responsibility to operate, maintain and enhance the buildings owned and leased by RMIT University, oversee construction projects and ensure the provision of physical facilities services. The Group has an operating budget in excess of $40m and prospective capital projects of over $30m per annum for the next few years in Melbourne and Vietnam. RMIT's built environment involves approximately ~110 buildings in Melbourne spread across all of RMIT's campuses and sites. The capital stock of the University is Property Services currently consists of the following areas:

About You

Reporting to the Associate Director, Capital Works, you will be responsible for leading the delivery of assigned capital works projects, in particular the building asset lifecycle replacement programs. This involves consultation with internal staff and the engagement of external project teams as required.

You will be a strategic thinker who is able to assess technical building services / systems and develop and deliver practical solutions that align with RMIT’s design principles.

You will take a leadership role in managing project risks and ensuring all projects meet financial, performance, quality, safety and environmental objectives. 

Additionally, you will require a high level of communication, negotiation and organizational skills together with a strong commercial acumen. 

To be successful in this position, you’ll have:

  • Experience managing capital projects (particularly building asset lifecycle replacement programs) delivered successfully by a diverse project team in a commercial and complex environment, ideally Higher Education, State Government and/or a large institution.
  • Experience in engaging, managing and motivating a diverse team of internal stakeholders, consultants and contractors.
  • Experience coordinating and implementing projects by utilising effective management principles of planning, resource allocation, communication, formalised documentation, implementation, negotiation, evaluation and reporting.
  • Skill, knowledge and ability to deliver projects to time, quality and cost parameters.
  • Ability to successfully conduct negotiations, manage contracts and effectively communicate with clients, consultants, authorities and other project related bodies.
  • Experience in financial management of project budgets, understanding of capital expenditure and accounting principles and ability to interpret financial information and present in a clear and concise format.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated experience producing comprehensive recommendations, project and implementation plans, briefing papers and reports.
  • Proven ability to analyse problems, identify critical issues and develop strategies for delivering solutions.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of property management and regulatory requirements in the building industry (including Building Code of Australia, Victorian Building Regulations, WorkCover and OH&S).
