About the Role 


The Senior Operations Manager, Language Testing is responsible for the operational management of the English testing services at RMIT Training. The manager will oversee all testing delivery as well as the administration support of all testing activities. The role will also connect and maintain relations with testing partners ensuring both compliance to all requirements and maximising test taking volumes through session management and volume building activities.  


 


In addition, the Senior Operations Manager, Language Testing is responsible for leading and managing a team of administrative and customer service employees, as well as a pool of casual language testing staff. The Senior Operations Manager, Language Testing will oversee rostering to ensure the test centre is always appropriately resourced and that the integrity of the IELTS and PTE Academic tests are maintained 


 


The role will work closely with the Executive Director, Commercial & Operations to ensure the ongoing sustainability of testing operations, maximise revenue and ensure the achievement of targets and goals.  


 


The Senior Operations Manager, Language Testing is required to provide in person and phone support to the Language Testing team. Language tests are delivered Monday to Saturday and so support may be required after hours and on weekends.   


 


 


About You 


To be successful in this position you will have: 


  • Relevant tertiary qualification 

  • Working with Children Clearance  

  • Demonstrable experience, knowledge and understanding of IELTS and PTE Academic test procedures and delivery 

  • Proven people management and leadership experience, including familiarity with rostering, management and motivation of a casual workforce 


  • Previous experience managing the security, integrity and quality assurance of confidential information and records in a secure environment 

  • Proven ability to be adaptable, flexible and show initiative when problem solving  

  • Strong project management and organisational skills with the ability to manage varied and conflicting demands to agreed standards and timelines, while maintaining high attention to detail 

  • Excellent communication skills 

  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish productive working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders from a variety of cultural backgrounds and organisational levels 


  • Strong organisational and administration skills, with the ability to multitask, deliver to deadline and perform under pressure, while maintaining high attention to detail 

  • Commercial acumen, including ability to contribute to, monitor and work within budgets 

  • Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and ability to operate in a culturally appropriate manner 

  • High level of computer literacy, particularly in the Microsoft Office suite and with databases 

  • Familiarity with the international academic arena is desirable  


  • Project and resource management experience is desirable 

  • Experience and knowledge in managing or running an IELTS and PTE Academic Test Centre is desirable 


 


About the Team 


The Language Testing team runs a few different tests: Paper-based IELTS, computer-based IELTS, and PTE-Academic. These tests are run throughout the week from Monday to Saturday. Each paper based IELTS test has an average of up to 300 test takers. There are a maximum of 24 test takers per session in the computer-based IELTS test, as well as a maximum of 15 candidates in the PTE-Academic test.  


 


IELTS is the International English Language Testing System. It’s the world’s most popular English language test for tertiary education, work and migration purposes. International students wanting to study at an Australian university are required to pass the IELTS test to show their English language abilities. The test can also be taken for work purposes or applying for residency. In a global partnership of language experts, IDP: IELTS Australia, the British Council and Cambridge English Language Assessment co-created IELTS.  


 


PTE Academic is the world’s leading computer-based test of English for study abroad and immigration. PTE Academic is the English test trusted by universities, colleges and governments around the world. You can use the PTE test to prove your English ability for university and college admissions or as part of a visa application.  


 


The Language Testing team manages the pre and post-test administration, as well as the running of the test during the week. Casual employees to run the tests on Saturdays. On a typical Saturday test day, it consists of 1 session of paper-based IELTS, up to 2 sessions of computer-based IELTS, and up to 3 sessions of PTE-Academic.
