The Opportunity

  • Full-time (35 hours week)
  • Permanent, continuing role
  • $138,171 - $146,613 (depending on exp.) + 17% super + leave loading

The Integrated Acute Services Building (IASB), located in the Prince of Wales Hospital at Randwick, forms part of the Randwick Health and Innovation Precinct, supporting health research and education. The IASB wet labs are managed as a centralised research support facility through the UNSW Mark Wainwright Analytical Centre.

The Senior Operations Manager will support the Director of Research Facilities and Infrastructure in the management of new multi-user PC2 & PC3 wet lab facilities, in the IASB. Working with multiple stakeholders including researchers, facilities management, South Eastern Sydney Local Health District) and industry partners, you’ll manage wet lab operations and contribute to the overall IASB strategic initiatives.

The role reports to the Director of Research Facilities and Infrastructure, Randwick Health Precinct and has up to seven direct reports.

About the successful applicant:

You have a relevant tertiary qualification in biological/biomedical science or related discipline with subsequent relevant experience, or equivalent competence gained through a combination of education, training, and experience and can demonstrate the following Skills and Experience: -

  • Extensive experience managing biomedical lab facilities with a comprehensive understanding of laboratory management requirements including knowledge of AS2243, PC2, PC3 and OGTR guidelines for meeting certification and WHS requirements.
  • Proven relationship and stakeholder management skills to be able to effectively collaborate with stakeholders within and outside UNSW.
  • Highly developed interpersonal, communication and influencing skills with the ability to communicate a wide variety of stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and proven capacity to exercise initiative, flexibility and to be proactive in development of robust solutions to problems.
  • Knowledge of budgeting and resource allocation procedures including experience with complex financial systems.
  • People management skills through direct reports and/or facility users.
  • Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
  • Experience working with a range of computer systems and applications, such as Laboratory Information Management Systems, WHS Management Systems, Oracle databases and online collaborative applications.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training
