About the Role
Information Technology Services (ITS) provides corporate IT services to ANU staff, students and visitors in support of achieving excellence in research, teaching and public policy. These services include network, communications, computing platforms, data storage, desktop and mobile access, enterprise systems, student learning environments, and IT security. The work of ITS is coordinated with services provided within and by University Colleges and other Service Divisions to form a cohesive, University-wide information services infrastructure.

Our company is growing rapidly and is looking to fill the role of senior network administrator. We are looking for a talented and committed individual highly proficient in networking technology (minimum of 5 years experience) to join a team of networking professionals on an exciting journey for the organisation in the world of Networking and Security.

The ITS Network team deliver Network infrastructure services across both fixed and wireless networks throughout the ANU campus and across satellite sites. The role is primarily responsible for the day-to-day and emergency operation and maintenance of the University’s communications services, voice and network infrastructure up to and including third tier. The role includes technical consultation on project designs, validation of operational requirements and contribution to the design, planning, implementation and maintenance of data communications, security services, components and associated infrastructure.

Key Duties:

  • Wireless and LAN network set up, maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Installing, configuring, maintaining, documenting, troubleshooting and upgrading hardware, firmware, peripherals, operating systems, and applications as required. Current technology suite is mostly Cisco based shortly moving to Arista Networks . 
  • Performs and or assists in installation, tier-2 and tier-3 troubleshooting, and support of local- and wide-area network hardware, software and applications to include voice, video, and data cable systems
  • Provides in-depth technical troubleshooting and diagnosis of all network components
  • Contributes to physical and logical voice and data network planning and design
  • Develops, designs, analyzes, enhances and documents enterprise network with enterprise class requirements
  • Develops scripting to aid in configuration and deployment automation of the network. Knowledge of Ansible or Python will be highly regarded.
  • Conducts testing of network design and failover
  • Required to prepare recommendations and supporting details for formal project proposals for network connectivity and configurations
  • Manage client expectations for data communications connectivity and related services, products and applications, throughout the  project(s) lifecycle

  • Time Management skills are essential to the position as the successful applicant will be called on to address competing priorities in both project and operational areas
  •  Team work is essential as the successful applicant will be interacting with and working with not only their immediate team but also other department virtual cross teams since the network is the underlying technology supporting all infrastructure and the application stack right up to the user level
  • A self starter with the ability to work quickly and efficiently under pressure with minimal supervision and the ability to swiftly grasp the complexities of the current network in order to successfully commence contributing to operations and projects
  • A mindset which looks to advance and improve and hone their skills with a view to future career advancement and additional certifications
