Your new role

As the Senior Manager, Sport & Recreation, you'll spearhead the strategic direction and oversee the comprehensive management of our diverse offerings, including our fitness centre, sports clubs, social sports, events, and more. You'll lead a robust team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, engaging, and safe experiences for our students, staff, and the wider community. Your role is crucial in balancing the commercial aspects with our mission to enhance student wellbeing, making sport and recreation an integral part of the Curtin experience.

In this role, you will:

  • Strategic Leadership: Chart the course for Curtin Sport & Recreation, aligning with our broader university goals to enhance student life and wellbeing.
  • Operational Excellence: Drive the operational management of our facilities and programs, ensuring they meet the highest standards of service and customer satisfaction.
  • Community and Partnership Building: Foster meaningful relationships within and beyond the university, enhancing our offerings and creating lasting benefits for our community.
  • Financial Stewardship: Ensure the financial health of our operations, balancing revenue generation with the delivery of top-tier programs and services.
We're looking for:
  • A strategic thinker with a proven track record in sports and recreation management.
  • A dynamic leader capable of inspiring and managing a diverse team.
  • An adept communicator skilled in building partnerships and engaging with various stakeholders.
  • A forward-thinker with a keen eye for financial management and operational efficiency.
  • Someone with a relevant tertiary qualification and extensive experience in the sport and recreation sector.

Selection Criteria:
  • Demonstrated leadership and organisational skills with proven ability in strategic planning and facility development.
  • Demonstrated people leadership skills with the ability to lead and motivate a large team in the achievement of organisational goals, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
  • Proven ability to liaise with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders and experience in high level strategic partnership, sponsorship, and engagement management.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the challenges involved in managing a multi-function sport, recreation and fitness operation and the capacity to anticipate and respond to current and future trends with a proactive approach to the identification, analysis, and investigation of opportunities to improve growth, performance, and outcomes.
  • Demonstrated experience and ability in budgeting and financial management.
  • Strong experience in connecting sport to community and social interaction.
  • Proven experience in integrating sporting programs & recreation activity with physical and mental health across large communities and/or student cohorts.
