About This Opportunity 

As the Senior Manager, Research Contracts you will be an integral part of the Research Commercial Management Unit, situated within the Research Office. Your primary responsibilities encompass team leadership, contract management, fostering a community of practice, and providing high-level research commercial management support to researchers.

Operating within a vibrant and collaborative environment at the St Lucia campus, this full-time, continuing position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the enhancement of UQ's research performance.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Lead a team specializing in commercial management, research administration, and negotiation of research contracts to deliver high-quality research management services to UQ Researchers.

  • Oversee critical processes enabling the University's research activities, including developing effective relationships with key stakeholders, ensuring compliance with research regulations, and delivering high-quality research contracting, administration, and support services.

  • Provide strategic leadership to support commercial management frameworks at the University, navigating the complex operational landscape across faculties, institutes, and central units.

  • Act as a subject-matter expert in preparing commercial terms, including assessing partner and project risks.

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to maximize research income, emphasizing contract research and opportunities to leverage government and industry funding.

  • Be responsible for the team’s delivery of exceptional professional and service-focused outcomes in line with UQ Business Principles, policies and procedures.


About You

  • Postgraduate or tertiary qualifications and extensive contract management experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training. 

  • Demonstrated ability to manage and lead of a team in a service delivery and customer focused environment.

  • Demonstrated understanding and application of research commercial management.

  • Demonstrated ability to conceptualise, implement and review processes and policies with a commitment to continuous improvement and process planning.

  • Highly developed relationship management and consulting skills, including the ability to interact, influence and negotiate with a variety of stakeholders.

  • Experience in the tertiary education or research sectors or a similarly large and complex environment is highly desirable.

The successful candidate may be required to complete background checks including, criminal history and education checks.

What We Can Offer

This is a full-time, permanent position at HEW 9. The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $127,496 - $134,829 plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range $149,171 – $157,750 per annum.
