An exciting new opportunity in Veterinary Technology.

The University of Adelaide’s School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences has achieved outstanding levels of excellence in 11 years of operation.  The School’s veterinary program leapt into the Global Top 50 in the 2019 QS academic discipline rankings and received an ERA evaluation rating at level 5 (well above international standard) in the 2019 Excellence for Research in Australia evaluation round. The School provides exceptional outcome-based education and training of animal and veterinary scientists in a strong research environment, consisting of world leading multi-disciplinary teams that provide opportunities for cross disciplinary research, education and innovation in animal health and welfare.

The School of Animal & Veterinary Sciences is offering a new undergraduate program in Veterinary Technology with the first intake of students in 2020. The School is seeking a Senior Lecturer academic to assist in the delivery of the Veterinary Technology degree. The position will work collaboratively with other members of the school to create and coordinate the program and develop research in the field.

The Senior Lecturer in Veterinary Technology will be responsible for the continuous review and improvement of the Veterinary Technology program curriculum and delivery, ensuring it evolves and continues to meet the needs of students (current and future) and industry alike. In addition, the incumbent will be required to assess the need and work together with Clinical Leads in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital to ensure that clinical rotations are delivered in line with the program requirements. It will be expected that the successful applicant will take on Program Coordinator duties.

Furthermore, the incumbent will be responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with stakeholders (for example: veterinary practices for workplace learning, clinical skills laboratory, pastoral care and support for the students).

To be the successful applicant you will have demonstrated abilities to attract research and to develop a high-quality research program in the future. You will be an enthusiastic, innovative and team-orientated person with a passion for delivering the highest standards of research and teaching. Your communication and interpersonal skills must be of a very high standard.

To be successful:

  • A PhD or evidence of advanced high-level scholarship in areas relevant to the discipline.
  • Demonstrated ability in teaching Veterinary Technology at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels.
  • Experience in course coordination and continuous program review and development.
  • Demonstrated research excellence in animal and/or veterinary related disciplines as evidenced by an established track record of research outputs and external peer-reviewed research funding.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of an academic team that is aligned with the University of Adelaide staff values and behaviour framework.
