The Opportunity

The Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering is ranked one in Australia and 48th in the world. The Department received the highest rating of 5/5 (equal 1st in Australia) indicating “well above world class” research in chemical engineering in the recent Excellence in Research Australia assessment, and the Faculty of Engineering as a whole received a 5/5 rating.

The Department is very active in both education and research and has an international reputation for its quality research programs and postgraduate training. The Department has 26 academic staff, and over 150 postgraduate students. The Department prides itself on fundamental and industry-focused research.

The Department has internationally recognised research strengths in bioprocessing and biomaterials, particle technology, process design and optimisation, food engineering, rheology, energy transformation and sustainable processing, nanomaterials and particle technology, and waste processing.

As the successful candidate you will be required to develop and teach course material in both biochemical and chemical engineering units, ensuring the highest standards of scholarship and teaching; attract national competitive research grants; and run an active, world class research program in one or more of the areas of:

  • Bioreactor technology design
  • Development and modeling
  • Biomolecule synthesis and bio-molecular modeling
  • Biochemistry, enzymes and fermentation
  • Protein and gene engineering

The successful candidate will have a recognised university PhD degree in chemical or biochemical engineering coupled with relevant tertiary education teaching and/or industrial experience.

In addition, the successful candidate will have a strong personal record of research (demonstrated through high-level publications in the fields of biochemical and chemical engineering). Relevant industry experience and relevant postdoctoral experience in reputable institutions will be highly valued.
