The Senior Lecturer will be required to teach, undertake research, publish and attract research funding in the area of nursing. The appointee will promote the School and establish and maintain links and partnerships with the academic, industry and professional communities. The appointee will make an independent contribution to the School and Faculty’s teaching, research, program development, and relevant service activities.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Demonstrating excellent scholarly learning and teaching at the higher education level with an emerging reputation at the national level
  • Making a significant contribution to the moderation and maintenance of academic standards, and the development of course and unit curriculum that exemplifies Deakin’s curriculum framework, and meets external requirements such as the Higher Education Standards Framework and professional accreditation
  • Designing and implementing best practice assessment of student learning outcomes at Unit and Course level, and leading assessment panels, alongside researching and publishing in learning and teaching, including testing the effectiveness of innovations designed to improve student and graduate outcomes including graduate employment
  • Providing leadership in teaching and learning through roles such as Course Director
  • Lead teaching and learning capability related to discipline or pedagogy, and support the professional development of other academics, including formal mentoring
  • Maintaining a reputation at the national level in research and scholarship, through publication and conference presentations
  • Make significant contributions to the attraction of external funding and leading research projects to create new insights and opportunities

Key selection criteria for this role:

  • Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a registered nurse
  • PhD in a relevant discipline
  • Excellent record of scholarly learning and teaching in undergraduate and/or postgraduate programs, including developing innovative curricula
  • Expertise in multi-literacies and experience in teaching effectively in a technology enhanced contemporary higher education environment
  • Experience in supervising research students
  • Experience of working as a productive member of a research team with a scholarly publication record based on research or practice
  • Successful track record of attracting nationally competitive or industry research funding
  • Successful track record of research and publication in highly ranked academic journals
  • Knowledge, understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and contemporary issues
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a proven ability to establish good working relationships with colleagues
  • Demonstrated commitment to Equal Opportunity principles and practices, and Occupational Health and Safety
