Senior Lecturer - (Clinical Education) - Year 4 Medicine Coordinator - Dubbo and Orange

• Part-time 0.4 FTE fixed term at Dubbo or Orange until 31 December 2027

• Base Salary $145,023 - $167,221 (pro-rata)+ 17% superannuation plus Full Clinical loading where eligible

About the opportunity

The School of Rural Health (SRH) has been delivering long term rural placements for The University of Sydney year 3 and 4 medical students in Orange and Dubbo for over 20 years. In 2022, The University of Sydney commenced delivery of its four-year graduate entry Doctor of Medicine (MD) Program in two streams; a Metropolitan stream based on the University’s Camperdown campus in Sydney, and a Dubbo stream based at the School of Rural Health in Dubbo.

We have a position available for a Senior Lecturer (Education-Focused) – Year Four Coordinator who will undertake a range of duties related to the implementation of the curriculum as well as teaching and learning activities for Year Four in the Doctor of Medicine (MD) Program (Dubbo Stream) and extended rural placement students across Dubbo and Orange. This position will have a supervision and leadership role in the Program including coordination and management of academic staff and tutors within the portfolio. The Year Four program is devoted to the following fields Medicine, Surgery, General Practice, the Elective and Vocational Elective Terms and, where applicable, the Assistant in Medicine program.

This position is located at either Dubbo or Orange with support to be provided to Year Four students across both sites. Limited travel between rural and metropolitan sites is a requirement of this position and therefore a driver’s license is required. Some out-of-hours work is also required of this role.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

• contribute to outstanding educational design, delivery, evaluation and outcomes;
• contribute to scholarship and applies clinical knowledge and expertise for improved student outcomes;
• actively contribute to the research, education and administrative activities of the discipline/School/Faculty;
• provide academic oversight and leadership of the Year Four component of the Sydney Medical School Doctor of Medicine Program at Dubbo and Orange;
• lead and manage staff/tutors;
• support pastoral care needs of students at the Clinical School;
• fulfil Governance and Compliance requirements of the Sydney Medical Program Doctor of Medicine and the Rural Health Multidisciplinary Training Program/Murray Darling Medical Schools Program Parameters;
• support the orientation and induction of students and staff to the area.

About you

• have a bachelor of Medicine (MB)/Doctor of Medicine (MD)/Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent from a recognised tertiary institution
• PhD in an academic field relevant to the discipline or other higher professional qualifications relevant to graduate medical education
• recognition as a Fellow of the relevant Australasian medical specialist college or equivalent as recognised by Australian Health Professional Regulation Agency (AHPRA), e.g. FANZCA, FRACP, FRACS, FACEM, FRACGP
• current registration with AHPRA or equivalent professional bodies (where relevant)
• demonstrated influence in applying clinical expertise to innovation in pedagogy and adult education
• demonstrable applied understanding of contemporary pedagogical practices in the discipline
• deep and broad experience in teaching and learning in an established Medical Program
• leadership experience in a team-teaching environment as well as leading education activities to successful outcomes.
• demonstrated significant experience in supervising and managing others.
• demonstrable understanding of and commitment to rural health
• have a broad knowledge of the Australian Healthcare system
• Current driver’s license.
• compliance with the Public Health (COVID-19 Vaccination of Health Care Workers) Order 2021.
