About the opportunity

Formed in 1856, Sydney Medical School is the oldest medical school in Australia. It accommodates around 1200 medical students undertaking a four-year graduate-entry Doctor of Medicine program. In addition, students undertake a range of higher degrees by research or coursework, including PhD and Masters degrees to, graduate diplomas and graduate certificate courses.  In addition to teaching and research facilities located at the primary Camperdown and Westmead campuses, Sydney Medical School is comprised of five metropolitan clinical schools and two rural clinical schools where students undertake the majority of the Medical Program.

Nepean Clinical School provides medical teaching for approximately 120 medical students each year in addition to overseas students on elective placements. Education is provided by a large number of clinicians including Clinical Academics, hospital specialists with academic titles, private practitioners, junior medical staff, and nursing and allied health staff. The program is supported by university education staff. While the University of Sydney Medical Program is the main context for student teaching, medical education continues into the early postgraduate years, and further into the specialist training programs conducted by various specialist colleges.

We have a position for an exceptional Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor to contribute to outstanding medical education design, delivery, evaluation, and research.

This University position is based at Nepean Clinical School, Sydney Medical School, which is located at Nepean Hospital. This opportunity will be offered at Level C or Level D depending on the successful applicant’s skills and experience.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • provide leadership in the development, implementation, and promotion of medical education programs at the Nepean Clinical School
  • collaborate with NBMLHD clinical staff and across Medical divisions and departments to develop short and long-term plans for improving healthcare quality, safety, process improvement, and value
  • promote a culture that is collaborative, team-oriented, and one that respects the skill sets and opinions of all faculty and staff
  • provide clinical care as part of their relevant health discipline team, including actively contributing to department activities, e.g., quality and safety and service improvement

About you

For level C

  • have a PhD or equivalent clinical experience in the related field and are registered with the relevant bodies
  • have an established research profile evidenced by original, high-quality and independent research-related fields of practice
  • have experience in teaching and learning, including demonstrated experience in designing, implementing and evaluating teaching and learning initiatives
  • demonstrate pursuit of academic research of national and international significance with a  network of relationships with academic, consumer/advocacy, industry and / or professional organisations, partners, and stakeholders
  • demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the key strategic issues in the discipline and higher education sector.

For Level D

In addition to the above:

  • have a distinguished record of university scholarly teaching excellence as evidenced through successful student outcomes, demonstrated impact on student learning, recognition through awards/prizes and innovation including experience in supervising and supporting Higher Degree by Research students.
  • have an established wide network of relationships with key academic, consumer/advocacy, industry and/or professional institutions, partners and stakeholders that can be leveraged to enhance the standing of the discipline, School/ Faculty and University
