About the opportunity
The Faculty of Medicine and Health has a long-standing commitment to improving the health of people in rural, regional, and remote communities and delivers education and training to health professionals to facilitate their interest in working within these communities. This commitment has been supported by continuous program funding by the Federal Government.
The University of Sydney has three University Departments of Rural Health (UDRH) located in Broken Hill, Dubbo/Orange and Northern Rivers/Lismore. Each of the three UDRH are multi-professional and multi-disciplinary, delivering clinical education and research. The University Departments of Rural Health each have strong collaborative relationships with the health services and communities within which they are located.
We are seeking to appoint an academic leader at the level of Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor of Allied Health or Nursing based at University Department of Rural Health in Broken Hill. The position is initially for two years (to December 2024) with possibility for renewal.
As the Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor of Allied Health or Nursing you will be part of the UDRH team actively working to improve student experience and education in rural and remote health, improving the quality of care for rural, regional, and remote communities. You will establish and maintain local and regional partnerships, enhance national expertise in rural and remote health research and develop sustainable models for the translation of research into policy and practices.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
work collaboratively with colleagues across the three UDRH locals of Broken Hill Dubbo/Orange and the Northern Rivers/Lismore to develop context-based multidisciplinary education and research in rural, regional, and remote health
engage in high-quality teaching and learning experiences (at undergraduate, postgraduate, and Honours levels, and if appropriate, Higher Degree Research supervision) that meet Faculty and University expectations and standards
contribute to the delivery of quality education experiences that support student learning needs and meet curriculum/course accreditation requirements
contribute to the design and delivery of multidisciplinary service and work-integrated learning models and unit content
systematically collect and use feedback on student learning to adjust educational approaches to improve student outcomes
demonstrate research performance in line with Faculty criteria for a Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor
continue to develop a national reputation for research in an area related to Faculty and University research priorities for rural, regional and remote health and community engagement
contribute to the broader life of the UDRH, the Faculty and University through relevant opportunities.
About you
a PhD in an academic field relevant to allied health, nursing or related area is essential. A Masters degree in a relevant field is desirable
current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency
the ability to lead and develop academics and work in partnership with stakeholders across a range of locations, disciplines and backgrounds
a deep and broad experience in teaching and learning, as evidenced by participation in multidisciplinary team teaching within an established program and experience across a variety of settings
demonstrated excellence in research and scholarly activities relevant to the speciality, with evidence of leading research translation for policy and practice
an established network of relationships with key academic, industry and professional institutions
