Overview

The School of Medical and Health Sciences at Edith Cowan University (ECU) offer undergraduate, postgraduate and research degrees.  Academics in the School are involved in research and teaching relating to a wide range of health disciplines.

ECU has recently built new state-of-the-art laboratories operating at Physical Containment 2 (PC2) level and we are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Laboratory Technician to join our technical support team. The role is responsible for the delivery of high-level laboratory advice and support services and contributes to the provision of a safe laboratory environment for students and staff in the Medical Sciences programs within the School.

Our ideal candidates will meet the selection criteria:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Laboratory Techniques OR the equivalent level of expertise gained from a combination of equivalent qualifications and experience;
  • Demonstrable technical skills and experience in preparing for laboratory sessions and maintaining equipment particularly associated with microbiology teaching
  • Demonstrated experience in preparing for laboratory sessions and maintaining equipment particularly associated with chemistry, biochemistry, physiology, immunology, haematology, histology and/or genetic teaching
  • Strong Occupational Safety and Health awareness with a demonstrated ability in the safe handling of hazardous substances and biological materials; 
  • Extensive experience working in a PC2 environment;
  • Flexibility to work across different discipline areas;
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.

Exposure to Australian Standards AS/NZS:2243 – Safety in Laboratories, particularly in relation to microbiological safety and containment and biological sample storage would be an advantage. Experience working in a medical clinical setting would be highly regarded.

On occasion, you may be asked to participate in an on-call roster.

Benefits & Remuneration

This full-time ongoing position attracts remuneration of $75,821 – $84,254 plus 17% University superannuation contribution.
