The Opportunity

The Department of Pharmacology is one of five Departments of the Biomedicine Discovery Institute. Its goal is to advance both education and research in the field of pharmacology at every level from the molecule to the cell through to the integrative response at the whole animal level. 

The Department of Pharmacology has an immediate opening for a full-time Senior Laboratory Technical Officer with animal handling, mammalian cell, and molecular biology experience to join our Technical Teaching Support team.

You will be part of a highly collaborative and enthusiastic group supporting undergraduate teaching of Pharmacology and other Biomedical Sciences-related disciplines. You will be involved in facilitating and training students in cutting-edge experimental pharmacology, molecular and cellular biology techniques allowing a high degree of proficiency and applicability in the workforce.

In this role, you will need the following skill sets:

  • Mammalian cell culture
  • Animal handling/small animal surgery. 
  • Extensive experience in the set-up, use and troubleshooting of organ baths for experimental pharmacology practical classes
  • Proficient in experimental biological techniques such as immunoassays (ELISA), qPCR, biochemical assays, Western Blot, RNA extractions, etc
  • Histology/immuno-staining of tissues or cells
  • Additional duties include the provision of stock solutions for general lab use and maintenance of records/databases of reagents and cell/animal lines

The successful applicant will have demonstrated experience working in a Laboratory environment, as well as high-level analytical, diagnostics and problem-solving skills, including the ability to implement effective technical and research processes and systems, with experience establishing priorities, allocating resources and meeting deadlines in a large, complex medical or scientific environment.
