About the Role

The Senior Information Technologist: Network Services (Projects) will have a primary focus on the provision of senior project leadership and delivery of the key objectives for the Uni Wide Campus Network Hardware Refresh (800+ devices and associated cabling), a continuation of multi-year project which will transform the UniSA network, refreshing all networking equipment in each building on all campuses and sites during the life of the project.

You will contribute to the design, development and delivery of effective and innovative information technology network services across the university and to external clients, to support teaching, learning and research.

About UniSA Information Strategy and Technology Services

Information Strategy and Technology Services (ISTS), is responsible for the strategic and operational provision of UniSA’s considerable IT infrastructure and services with approximately 180 staff working in 9 key areas.

The University’s Network Services environment provides the underlying resources for data, video and telephony services that support the University’s core business of Teaching, Learning, and Research. Based on best practice enterprise architectures across all four metropolitan and two regional campuses, the network provides wired and wireless connectivity supporting over 35,000 students and staff with core IT services delivered from two interconnected Data Centres. This converged real-time data network forms a vital part of the University’s IT infrastructure which has a target uptime of 24 hours per day, 365 days per year.

The Senior Information Technologist is an integral part of the team in ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of the University’s Network Services environment.

Core Responsibilities

  • Provide detailed design and configuration for replacement network solution
  • Minimise business impacts at each layer of the network
  • Enhance security with the implementation of new network visibility features and policy enforcement opportunities
  • Establishment of new Network management platforms and operational support procedures
  • Oversee and co-ordinate the technical replacement of the Access layer phase of the project


Essential Skills and Experience

  • Significant relevant experience in the development and support of enterprise information systems within a complex networked computing environment comparable to the University
  • Demonstrated experience in a senior networking technical role providing guidance and leadership
  • Ability to work in critical data centre environments and understand the operational aspects of data centres
  • Relevant tertiary qualification (normally a degree), active Cisco CCNP (or better) qualification and experience supporting Cisco products or equivalent knowledge and skills
  • Ability in delivering solutions utilising project management methodologies
