About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Information Technologist: Network Security to join our ISTS Network Services Team.

Engaging with the Manager: Network Services, other ISTS Senior Information Technologists and University staff, this role will support the secure design, development and delivery of effective and innovative information technology network services, to meet business needs in line with the UniSA’s strategic goals and objectives.

About UniSA Network Services

The University’s Network Services environment provides the underlying resources for data, video and telephony services that support the University’s core business of Teaching, Learning, and Research.

The network is based on best practice enterprise architecture consisting of Access, Distribution and Core layers, each performing a role in providing aggregation and services to the network. In addition to the standard model, two interconnected Data Centres provide a further aggregated core layer.

Based on industry standard hardware, software and protocols the Network environment includes:

  • building distribution and local on-campus wired network
  • wireless access across all campuses
  • on-campus MPLS core network
  • firewalls and Internet gateway security
  • load balancing services
  • wide-area inter-campus links
  • authentication and authorisation services
  • remote access services using Virtual Private Networks (VPN) connections for off-site users
  • voice systems

The converged real-time data network (voice, video and data) forms a vital part of the University’s IT infrastructure which has a target uptime of 24 hours per day, 365 days per year.

The Senior Information Technologist is an integral part of the team in ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of the University’s Network Services environment.

Core Responsibilities

  • Design, implement and support secure enterprise solutions based on industry network technologies services or applications (i.e Cisco or equivalent)
  • Provide technical leadership within the Network Services environment for current and future architecture of active network equipment
  • Provide specialist advice to business users on the operation and development of the University’s Network Services
  • Develop, document and maintain professional technical specifications and user guidelines for network technologies, services or applications
  • Ensure specific network service functions are delivered to facilitate effective teaching, research and administrative functions

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Relevant tertiary qualification (normally a degree), active Cisco CCNP qualification and experience supporting Cisco products or equivalent knowledge and skills
  • Extensive expertise in the development and support of enterprise information systems within a complex networked computing environment including; converged real-time data networks (data, voice and video), advanced routing (MPLS) and switching, supporting Cisco Catalyst 6500/9000 and Nexus 5K, high availability protocols, virtualised firewall and gateway application security, quality of service (QOS), multicast, load balancing, enterprise wireless services, virtual private networks (VPN) and authentication and authorisation protocols
  • Experience in the design and implementation of secure network firewalls in a complex environment
  • Knowledge in best practice configuration and management of Intrusion Prevention System (IPS)
  • Experience in a senior networking technical role providing guidance and leadership to team members
