Senior Information Technologist: Cyber Security (HEO 7)

  • Full-time, continuing position
  • Commencement Salary: $90,234 per annum (plus 17% superannuation)


About the Role

You will provide expertise in the development, support and maintenance of security processes that will protect the University from breaches, computer viruses or attacks by cyber-criminals. With prior experience in the management of cyber security incidents and implementing appropriate courses of action, you will lend your expertise to the development of cyber security controls as well as the design of new procedures and responses.

You will analyse and assess potential IT risks and provide advice to senior staff on appropriate security controls, taking a leadership role in the design of the University’s cyber security architecture and supporting technologies. You will also support the Manager: Cyber Security to educate staff in the awareness of cyber security issues and ensure that staff are trained in good cyber security practice.

Core Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design of the University’s cyber security infrastructure
  • Provide expert advice to senior stakeholders
  • Analyse and assess IT risks as they pertain to data, transmission, and authentication
  • Contribute to the appropriate training of university staff is good cyber security practice
  • Monitor ongoing hazards and ensure compliance of good security practices


Essential Skills and Experience

  • Relevant tertiary qualification or demonstrated equivalent knowledge and experience
  • Prior experience in the management of major cyber security breaches
  • Extensive experience in the design of cyber security architecture
  • In depth experience in the development and application of cyber security controls
  • Knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux and MS Windows servers
