Under the direction of the Associate Director, the role provides leadership, ownership and accountability for the management, development and performance of specific platforms and applications.
In collaboration with the Associate Director, the role is responsible for developing, implementing and managing a vision and roadmap for platform related technologies that is aligned to the strategic objectives and relevant governance principles of IDS and Flinders.
The role works closely with the relevant stakeholders and teams to ensure platform related priorities are aligned with the strategic and operational objectives of relevant IDS customers.
The role supervises a team of professional staff, provides strong people leadership and proactively manages overall staff performance.

Key Position Responsibilities

The Senior IDS Platform Lead – Human Resources Management is accountable for:

Leadership 

  • Managing and overseeing the technology lifecycle for specific platforms and applications.  Ensuring that platform and application upgrades and patches are implemented in accordance with vendor contractual agreements as well as IDS principles, policies, and procedures. 

  • Leading team members to collaborate and deliver on team tasks including the design, development, validation, testing and configuration of platforms and applications to meet technical specifications and end-user requirements.   Leading team members to identify, develop and implement appropriate change management activities to support system changes. 

  • Contributing to the continuous development of relevant platforms and applications by analysing, configuring, testing and documenting new functionalities and capabilities. 

  • Overseeing the timely resolution of issues and customer queries in collaboration with other relevant IDS teams.   

  • Periodically participating in knowledge building activities and events to be aware of latest/best practices related to the role and to keep skills and knowledge up to date.  

Customer Engagement & Success 

  • Working closely with relevant teams and stakeholders to ensure platform related priorities are aligned with the strategic and operational objectives of relevant IDS customers.  

Risk, Governance & Ways of Working 

  • Establishing and maintaining an agile based way of working to manage, refine, and prioritise the platform/s product backlog based on relevant customer and IDS priorities.  Balancing the need to support day to day operations in a stable and reliable manner, with the need to undertake functional enhancements and new features for customers. 

  • Developing activity, health and performance mechanisms and reporting to enable the ongoing assessment and analysis of user engagement and satisfaction with platforms and applications (including direct customer feedback mechanisms where possible). 

  • Working closely with platform and application vendors to ensure ongoing strategic and operational alignment, and that the vendor continues to meet the needs of Flinders. 

  • Conducting both formal and informal market scanning and benchmarking activities to be aware of emerging market offerings for the related platforms and applications. 

  • Identifying, managing and mitigating risks related to the activities being undertaken by the role in line with IDS and Flinders University policies and procedures. 

  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant IDS and Flinders University policies and procedures.  

Financial Management 

  • Managing the team’s financial performance in consultation with their Associate Director, ensuring that all aspects of the budget are managed effectively and in accordance with University policies. 

Other Responsibilities 

  • Any other responsibilities in line with the level of the role as assigned by the Supervisor and/or the University. 

Key Position Capabilities

  • Appropriate tertiary qualification in Information Technology or relevant technical area, and / or equivalent relevant experience in an IT environment.  

  • High level strategic thinking, planning and analytical skills and actively contributes to achieve outcomes and meet the University's strategic goals. 

  • High level skills in leading a team to its full potential, including advanced interpersonal and relationship management skills and the ability to manage staff performance. 

  • Extensive to broad experience in building and managing customer relationships in a strategic and long-term context. 

  • Extensive experience in agile ways of working including exposure to scaled agile methodologies and/or collaborating and delivering through a matrix structure. 

  • High level self-improvement and growth mindset/approach to the role and fosters it amongst the wider team. 

  • Advanced interpersonal influence and demonstrated ability to negotiate and communicate effectively with staff and customers across a diverse organisation particularly during the design, management and implementation of customer solutions. 

  • High level experience with Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) applications and Software as a service and enterprise applications and systems. 

  • High level knowledge and experience in application upgrades including planning, test plan, execution and program close out using good change management principles and practices. 

  • High level knowledge of the principles and practices of the software development lifecycle. 

  • Higher education experience advantageous.
