Reporting to:
Associate Director IDS Delivery Capability and Support
The role provides strategic and operational leadership to the relevant stakeholders and teams within IDS.
The role is responsible for developing and maintaining the holistic solution (current and target) reference architecture and roadmap for IDS (and supporting artefacts) with the purpose of improving the effectiveness, sustainability and cost efficiency of IDS solutions. This will be achieved through the identification and replacement of legacy components and the reduction of technical duplication, complexity and inefficiency.
The role works closely with the IDS Engagement & Success teams to ensure team priorities are aligned with the strategic and operational objectives of relevant IDS customers.
The role supervises a team of professional staff, provides strong people leadership and proactively manages overall staff performance.

Key Position Responsibilities

The key position responsibilities include: 

Technical Management & Support 

  • Leading and directing the relevant stakeholders and teams to ensure that all IDS architectural services and activities are maintained and delivered across IDS in a consistent, sustainable and reliable manner. 

  • Providing leadership, guidance, reporting and support to governance forums, projects, product owners, solution architects, technology vendors and designers to ensure that architectures and designs are aligned with the IDS architecture frameworks, principles, guardrails and design standards. 

  • Providing governance and assurance services for solution designs and technology options to ensure alignment with IDS architecture frameworks, principles, guardrails and design standards. 

  • Working as required, directly or indirectly with project teams to support the delivery of project outcomes.  

Technical Vision & Roadmap 

  • In collaboration relevant stakeholders, overseeing the delivery of the forward view of key IDS cloud and infrastructure activity based on the vision and roadmaps developed by the various leaders and specialists.   

  • Developing business cases for new or enhanced technologies and solutions to support the delivery of the roadmap. 

Technical Knowledge & Excellence 

  • Conducting both formal and informal market scanning and benchmarking activities to be aware of emerging market offerings and trends. 

  • Ensuring the team is periodically participating in knowledge building activities and events to keep skills and knowledge up to date.  Ensuring the team are meeting customers needs, resolving service performance issues and proactively improving services.  

  • Managing the provision of timely and effective advice and support to customers and stakeholders by identifying improvements to support services and providing technical expertise to enable customers to adopt new technologies and processes. 

Risk, Governance & Ways of Working 

  • Managing day-to-day vendor interactions and relationships using sound commercial judgement in accordance with University procurement policies. 

  • Establishing and maintaining an agile based way of working to manage, refine, and prioritise the activity backlog based on relevant customer and IDS priorities.  Balancing the need to support day to day operations in a stable and reliable manner, with the need to build and mature capability. 

  • Identifying, managing and mitigating risks related to the activities being undertaken by the role in line with IDS and Flinders University policies and procedures. 

  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant IDS and Flinders University policies and procedures.  

Other Responsibilities 

  • Any other responsibilities in line with the level of the role as assigned by the Supervisor and/or the University. 

Key Position Capabilities

  • Appropriate tertiary qualification in Information Technology or relevant technical area, and / or equivalent relevant experience in an IT environment.  

  • Advanced strategic thinking, planning and analytical skills and actively contributes to achieve outcomes and meet the University’s strategic goals. 

  • High level skills in leading a team to its full potential, including advanced interpersonal and relationship management skills and the ability to manage staff performance. 

  • Extensive experience in building and managing customer relationships in a strategic and long-term context. 

  • Extensive experience in agile ways of working including exposure to scaled agile methodologies and/or collaborating and delivering through a matrix structure. 

  • High level self-improvement and growth mindset/approach to the role and fosters it amongst the wider team. 

  • Advanced interpersonal influence and demonstrated ability to negotiate and communicate effectively with staff and customers across a diverse organisation particularly during the design, management and implementation of customer solutions.  

  • Advanced experience in contemporary enterprise architecture frameworks and their application to complex business environments. 

  • Extensive knowledge in business strategy creation, planning and implementation. 

  • Higher education experience advantageous.
