Curtin University’s team of health and safety professionals provide advice and assistance in the implementation of the University’s procedures within the context of its operations.
We work in collaboration with Curtin’s staff, students, contractors and visitors to provide services of the highest standard in line with legislative requirements to ensure a safe and healthy working environment for all.
We have an exciting opportunity for an outstanding project manager with experience managing a portfolio of improvement projects to join our Health and Safety team. This position will coordinate and contribute to change across Curtin through specific Health and Safety projects, including those related to hazardous materials (chemicals, microorganisms, biological materials, radioactive materials and radiation emitting equipment).
In this role you will:
- Prioritise, scope, schedule and action projects identified by the Director of Health and Safety.
- Educate staff, leaders, and key partners on a variety of health and safety initiatives, including hazardous materials management.
- Consult with and engage stakeholders from a variety of disciplines and across multiple levels of academia, management, and operations.
- Establish an organisation-wide hazardous materials management framework, and guide policy and systems related to hazardous materials.
- Be supported by a range of subject matter experts and the Health and Safety team.
- Bachelor of Science (BSc) / Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) in a related field such as Chemistry, Environmental Management, Occupational Hygiene, Materials Science, or Occupational Health and Safety.
- Substantial relevant industry experience in hazardous materials management, or a related field such as process engineering, process safety, risk engineering, or environmental engineering.
- An outstanding track record of project management in relation to managing schedules, cost, risks, and people across organisational boundaries.
- An ability to interpret and appropriately weight data related to current and emerging risks, including those related to hazardous materials.
- Sound working knowledge and understanding of legislation, codes, and standards applicable to Occupational Health and Safety, and a similar level of knowledge for one or more classifications of hazardous materials.
