Overview

Reporting to the Technical Manager, the position is responsible for the provision of safe, effective, customer-focused, and comprehensive technical support services to Academic Staff, Researchers and Students. Contribution to the continuous improvement and growth of the school through high-performance, effective management of the school’s specialist technical facilities, teaching spaces, resources and equipment, and compliance with all relevant legislation.

Accountabilities

Under the broad direction of the Technical Manager, manage and coordinate the daily operations for specialist technical facilities, teaching spaces, resources and equipment that are compliant with all relevant legislation and policies including Work Health Safety (WHS) and aligned to strategic and operational objectives which provide a customer-focused and comprehensive service to Academics, Researchers and Students. Maximises teaching, learning and research opportunities and optimises use of valuable resources. Provide leadership and supervision to the technical support team and students at a specialised discipline level including the resolution of escalated complex issues for that discipline. Support the technical team in the specialised discipline projects to ensure that teaching and research activities are effectively supported, and opportunities maximised by:

  • Designing, developing, constructing, and testing complex and specialised equipment, systems, and practical experiments to meet design specifications from a limited brief. 
  • Providing expert technical advice to staff and students on the design, construction and testing of complex and specialised equipment, 
  • Advising on and carrying out the demonstration of specialised equipment and helping with procedures for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and research.
  • Leading the commissioning, maintenance and upgrading of instruments and equipment in the engineering laboratories
  • Maintaining accurate records of individual laboratory requirements for each unit and research project. 
  • Ensuring WHS, Security, and availability of all equipment in the assigned laboratories.

Qualifications & Experience

  • A Degree level qualification in the relevant Engineering discipline. 
  • At least 4 years of subsequent experience in managing and coordinating operations for specialist technical facilities. 
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting large-scale and highly integrated teaching and research systems.

Benefits & Remuneration

This full-time position attracts remuneration of $97,113 to $108,813 p.a. (HEW 7) plus 17% University superannuation contribution.
