  • Salary range: $123,186 to $127,382 per annum (plus 17% superannuation)


About the Role

Reporting to the Chief of Staff, you will provide high level advice on government higher education legislation and policy to the Vice Chancellor and Enterprise Leadership Team.  You will coordinate and execute submissions to government and education agencies, develop whole-of-University responses to State and Federal government reviews and initiatives and evaluate the University’s response to legislative and policy initiatives.

Core Responsibilities

  • Provide high level strategic advice, submissions, briefs and position papers to the Vice Chancellor and Enterprise Leadership Team on higher education policy 
  • Develop and author high level position papers with a particular focus on implications for legislative compliance and modelling of impacts on University operations
  • Prepare briefing and initiatives in response to policy positions and papers from Universities Australia, the Australian Technology Network and South Australian Vice Chancellors Committee
  • Coach and mentor University staff to develop their understanding of the higher education legislative and policy environment

Essential Skills and Experience 
  • Substantial experience in policy analysis and communication in higher education, government or a related sector
  • High level experience in policy analysis and evaluation and preparation of submissions, briefs and position papers with particular reference to government settings
  • High level negotiation, interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Ability to identify, understand and disseminate strategic opportunities, business needs, and political context
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills with the ability to provide insightful advice and recommendations to senior staff
  • Demonstrated experience in driving and executing concurrent projects with competing deadlines in a complex environment comparable to higher education
