Your new role

Senior Developer – Smart Campus Team

We are seeking a talented and experienced Senior Developer to join our Curtin University's Smart Campus team, an innovative program focused on building an AWS-based serverless platform to unlock the potential of modern technologies, such as the Internet of Things (IoT), to enhance the operational efficiency, improve sustainability and elevate the overall campus experience for our staff and students. You will play a key role in designing, developing, and maintaining the core software solutions that power this exciting initiative.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain high-quality software solutions to ensure they meet business requirements and architectural standards.
  • Collaborate across the full software development lifecycle, from requirements analysis to design, coding, testing, deployment, technical documentation, and support.
  • Participate in code reviews to ensure code quality, performance, and maintainability.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends and recommending innovative solutions to enhance our systems and processes.
  • Act as an escalation point for the resolution of complex technical issues, collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify and implement effective solutions.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior developers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth.

Qualifications and Essential Experience:
  • Relevant degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 5+ years of professional software development experience, focusing on complex, enterprise-level applications, and systems.
  • Deep technical knowledge and proficiency in at least 1-2 modern programming languages (e.g., TypeScript, Python, JavaScript, Node.js, C#, Java).
  • Working knowledge and experience with AWS, particularly in serverless application development, including Lambda, IaC (CDK highly regarded), Kinesis, API Gateway, IoT Core, S3, DynamoDB, CloudFront, RDS, AppSync, CloudWatch.
  • Knowledge of good software development practices, including design patterns, coding standards, practices, and principles.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new technologies and methodologies as needed.
  • Understanding of non-functional requirements such as Security, Testing, Accessibility, Resiliency, Maintainability, etc.
  • Understanding of source control management (e.g., Git) and CI/CD concepts.
  • Understanding of software development methodologies, such as Agile or Scrum.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with stakeholders and cross-functional teams.

Desirable Experience

:


  • AWS Certifications
  • Experience with or an interest in Internet of Things (IoT) applications.
  • Experience with TDD, testing principles, and writing unit tests.

based at our Curtin Bentley campus
