About the Portfolio

The Operations Portfolio enables an integrated, enterprise-wide delivery for best practice student and staff experiences. The Portfolio incorporates the following business units:  Enterprise Projects and Business Performance (EPBP), Communications, Experience, Human Resources, Information and Technology Services (ITS), Office of the Chief Operating Officer, Procurement and Property Services Group (PSG).

The Portfolio houses significant drivers and delivery components across the staff and student journeys and enables the overall experience for both groups. The Portfolio is integral in bringing the RMIT strategy to life, across the globe.  Each of these functions supports the global operations of the University both directly as well as through its controlled entities. 

The Information Technology Services (ITS) function provides RMIT University with current and emerging Technology systems and services. About the position 

Working as part of the Information Technology Services – Student Experience team, the Senior Developer is actively involved in enhancing the integrations built with RMIT Learning Management Systems (and wider learning platform ecosystem), that support the core educational technologies of the University. The Senior Developer will work with Scrum Master and Product Owner of the “Learning Teaching and Research Applications squad” with ITS- Student Experience Team from leveraging Agile practices, development of solutions and work with other developers, testers, solution architects and analysts to deliver sustainable stakeholder-centric enhancements and solutions to uplift student and staff experience with learning and education technologies within RMIT.

 The Senior Developer provides a range (analysis, design, development, implementation, and support) of sophisticated technical software development services aimed primarily at enhancing, building and maintaining the University’s systems. This position has technical leadership responsibilities in project work as well as thought leadership in the recommendation of new technologies and standards.

About You

  • Extensive experience in enterprise application software development, including analysis, design, development, testing, implementation, documentation, and support - A thorough understanding of the SDLC.
  • Extensive experience in developing applications and providing support services to high quality integrated business systems. The position requires a high level of expertise in one or more of the following areas:
    • 3+ years of integration experience is a MUST in building, testing, deploying and managing API integrations
    • Ability to analyse integration requirements and design end to end integration flows.
    • Experience in producing integration analysis and design stage artefacts within the software development process (e.g., integration specifications, sequence diagrams, use case scenarios, component diagrams, data flow diagrams, BPMN diagrams).
    • Solid understanding of web services and related technology (e.g., REST, SOAP, XML, JSON, HTTP).
    • Experience working with AWS using infrastructure as code is highly regarded
    • Experience with backend application development with REST API services using Java
    • Experience working in an Agile working environment (e.g., SCRUM/Kanban).
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills; proven ability to write quality technical documentation.
  • Proven ability to prioritise tasks, work to deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and manage complex tasks using project management best practice.
  • Substantial experience in debugging or troubleshooting complex problems while providing effective progress communications and fault escalation procedures.
  • Proven ability to successfully participate as a productive team member, project leader / mentor or work autonomously as required.
