The School of Electrical Engineering, Computing, and Mathematical Sciences (EECMS) combines computational expertise in mathematics, statistics, and computing with applications in materials science, quantum physics, signal processing, and astronomy. EECMS contains several major research centres and institutes including the Curtin Institute for Computation, the Curtin Centre for Optimisation and Decision Science, the Curtin Institute for Radio Astronomy, and the Optus-Curtin Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence. These centres lead significant research and development programs with industry and government partners across the mining, energy, agriculture, and defence sectors. EECMS offers an accredited actuarial science course, one of only seven in Australia and the only one in Western Australia, with a strong focus on applied statistics and data analytics.


Cisco-Curtin Centre for Networks

Based within the School of EECMS, Cisco and Curtin University have announced investment in a new research centre, the Centre for Networks, focused on advancing networking technology. The Centre is an element of Cisco’s recently announced Country Digital Acceleration investment in the Australian market. Researchers at Curtin will undertake research to support industries that require a new approach to networking. Curtin researchers at the Centre for Networks will use the network as a platform to develop a new generation of applications. The emergence of the Internet of Things (IoT) represents an opportunity for intent-based networking to accelerate transformation across industries like education, health, mining, defence, and government., These industries face a unique challenge in converging their IT and operational networks. Researchers will seek to understand how to address these challenges and develop applications to help organisations tackle IoT.

Your new role

As a Senior Developer, you will play a crucial role in designing, developing, maintaining, and implementing innovative network solutions for the Cisco-Curtin Centre for Networks. You will also serve as a mentor to students within the Cisco Curtin Centre for Networks to progress software developed in the Centre to an enterprise level.


In this role you will:
  • Install, setup and maintain a telecom testbed for Cisco-Curtin Centre for Networks (C4N) including servers, wireless and wired network, and their associated software tools
  • Provide operational support for and maintenance of orchestration tools in C4N testbed including container and VM orchestration, network function management and orchestration tools
  • Test solutions against agreed acceptance criteria using approved testing methodologies e.g., unit tests, system tests, black box
  • Maintain documentation in support of technical and research work performed in the testbed including but not limited to technical reports, code repositories, and code itself, ensuring alignment with relevant standards.
  • Liaise with Digital and Technology Solution (DTS) to ensue alignment with Curtin’s development
  • Undertake other activities which the incumbent might reasonably be expected to do, and which are consistent with the accountabilities and responsibilities as listed above.

We are looking for candidates with extensive experience in relevant programming languages and/or maintenance of enterprise platforms, with demonstrated experience as a DevOps Engineer.

You will be required to have a high level of expertise in relevant tools and technologies, including:


  • Linux based environments
  • Container and VM based environments
  • Telecom networks

You will require current work rights in Australia that match the tenure of this role.
