About the team  

The Office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor Indigenous Education (PVCIE) is responsible for leading the development of all aspects of Indigenous education and academic activities throughout the university and providing strategic leadership of the School of Indigenous Studies.  The School of Indigenous Studies aspires to lead change for Aboriginal people, develop future leaders and demonstrate education leadership in Indigenous knowledge. The PVCIE is also responsible for the operations and strategic developments of the Berndt Museum, and the Poche Centre for Indigenous Health.  Through these entities the office of the PVCIE has responsibility to deliver multi-disciplinary teaching and research programs and provide specialised support and services to current and future Indigenous students.

About the opportunity  

As the appointee you will, under broad direction, provide strategic advice to the PVCIE on issues related to Indigenous postgraduate students and postgraduate pathways for Indigenous students.  You will work closely with the Indigenous Student Services Team in the Office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor Indigenous Education to develop and implement programs relating to the recruitment and academic journey of Indigenous postgraduate coursework students across all UWA’s courses. You will also be responsible for managing recruitment and student application processes, offering advice and support to postgraduate students and responsibility to coordinate related events, training and programs.

To be considered for this role, you will demonstrate: 

  • Bachelors’ degree with relevant postgraduate tertiary qualification and/or demonstrated equivalent competency
  • Comprehensive knowledge and demonstrated expertise in relevant higher education policies relevant to Indigenous postgraduate students
  • Ability to determine long term plans and strategic directions
  • Work proactively in meeting objectives, accepting challenges and meeting goals
  • Research, analytical and problem-solving skills of a specialised order
  • An extensive understanding of issues and challenges facing postgraduate students, particularly in professional postgraduate coursework programs
  • Ability to develop specialised programs to respond to the particular needs of Indigenous postgraduate students, and supervisors, across all disciplines and to provide direction to staff on their needs
