An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Coordinator, Business Continuity to join the Audit and Risk Unit where, as a successful candidate you will support and maintain Business continuity policy and frameworks to ensure the ongoing availability of University services and operations in response to potential adverse events. You will facilitate the development of risk-based business continuity plans, maintain the University pandemic plan and support the Critical Incident Management Team, Emergency Management Committee, emergency response groups and security operations teams across all campuses and satellite facilities.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Develop, manage and report on a business continuity management programme, including redefining programme scope, objectives, communication requirements, training needs, and performance metrics in line with the purpose of the Business Continuity policy and in accordance with ISO 22301 - Business continuity, and related national standards and guidelines (e.g. AS3745)
  • Provide a coordination role to support Crisis Management Teams in the management of crises and serious incidents affecting or likely to affect the welfare of people and/or critical business operations, in accordance with Crisis Management Plans, Business Continuity Plans and Disaster Recovery Plans.
  • Coordinate the review, maintenance and testing of university and/or local area Business Continuity Plans, working with local area managers to ensure these plans remain valid and fit for purpose
  • Conduct regular business impact assessments across the University to evaluate business continuity requirements and identify enhancements to Business Continuity Plans, risk profiling activities and other university processes
  • Work with the relevant IT teams in the review, maintenance and testing of technology Disaster Recovery Plans for core infrastructure services, to ensure such plans remain valid and fit for purpose
  • Maintain a system for management information reporting detailing the current status of all Business Continuity Plans, business impact analysis and Disaster Recovery Plans, including identification and monitoring of suitable business continuity key risk indicators
  • Work with various staff and student service delivery teams across the university, including procurement to manage incidents and/or projects that impact or could impact university operations
  • Promote awareness of Business Continuity policy, standards, plans, processes and arrangements and strive for excellence, continually evaluate progress and effectively overcomes barriers to achieve outcomes
  • Promote teamwork and provide tailored coaching to individuals to deliver high quality business continuity solutions, including integrating business continuity initiatives with wider risk and compliance management activities
  • Analyse problems, weigh up a range of options to translate complex issues into clear and understandable business continuity goals and performance targets for Deakin
  • Apply best practices to develop and deploy actions to ensure implementation of continuous improvement strategies in own work area
  • Develop and use a deep understanding of the client context to anticipate needs address client feedback and tailor services to ensure high-quality service standards and outcomes are achieved
  • Offer pragmatic, inclusive and sustainable solutions based on research and in alignment with university context, policies and practices  

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • Post-graduate qualifications or progress towards postgraduate qualifications and extensive relevant experience in risk, compliance and/or business continuity
  • Experience providing advice and consulting services to senior people on risk management and business continuity
  • Substantial knowledge of developing and maintaining and testing business continuity and risk programs in a large organisation
  • Experience supporting critical incident and emergency response teams
