About the Role

Reporting to the Manager: Safety and Wellbeing, the Senior Consultant: Safety and Wellbeing operates as a key member of the Safety and Wellbeing Team to directly support the University’s commitment of providing and maintaining a safe and healthy workplace and study environment for staff, students and visitors. The position partners with business units to enable, implement and operationalise work practices, robust safety and wellbeing systems and a culture that supports staff and students to thrive in a competitive and rapidly evolving global environment.

Core Responsibilities

  • Working with designated business units, influence senior managers to integrate WHS risk management with other relevant business risks
  • Promote and lead a culture of consultation, collaboration and continuous improvement in the management of risk, working closely with subject matter experts in local areas
  • Critically review and interpret WHS legislative requirements for the purpose of developing, implementing and monitoring Local Action Plans, policies and procedures
  • Lead and support local areas to develop a WHS Local Action Plan including providing training resources to enhance business capability
  • Conduct investigations for serious WHS incidents, proposing effective corrective actions
  • Conduct regular planned and unplanned workplace inspections and safety audits

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in WHS or equivalent skills and knowledge
  • A demonstrated commitment to health and safety objectives with strong leadership and people management skills with the ability to influence senior staff and lead, manage and develop staff
  • Substantial experience working in, and a detailed knowledge of, the legislative frameworks for WHS and Return to Work
  • Skilled and experienced in ergonomics and human factors in office, workshop and/or laboratory environments.
  • Substantial experience in understanding organisational culture and implementing change through PTC strategies
