As a Senior Consultant, People Solutions (Workplace) will provide a wide range of people and culture advice and coordination to enable end-to-end solutions for university stakeholders, with a particular focus on workplace relations. This includes providing advice to managers and others through successful preventative interventions, conduct and performance case management, dispute resolution and complex query analysis.

You’ll provide responsive capacity across broader People and Culture activities, working closely with subject matter experts people leaders, building specialist knowledge and taking end to end responsibility for case management and advice on people matters.  The role will contribute to the continuous improvement and application of best practice, leading on project activity to support team service delivery and improve our service.

In a typical week, you will:

  • Provide expert advice on workplace relations matters, including enterprise agreement (EA) interpretation and analysis and management of complex cases, including industrial disputes. 
  • Analyse problems, weigh up a range of options to identify accessible and inclusive solutions and translate complex issues into clear and understandable goals and targets for Deakin, with a primary focus on workplace relations but also extending into other people and culture disciplines, commensurate with exposure and experience, such as recruitment, remuneration and wellbeing.
  • Represent the University in cases up to and including Conciliation. Prepare materials, correspondence and recommendations on approach.
  • Provide pragmatic, professional and constructive advice to stakeholders, influencing actions and providing an appropriate consideration of risk.
  • Prepare EA documentation for Fair Work Commission and actively contribute to good faith bargaining through EA negotiations, reviews and providing analysis and recommendations.                                                                                                                                     

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • Postgraduate qualifications or progress towards postgraduate qualifications and extensive relevant experience or extensive experience and management expertise.
  • Experience managing complex cases in workplace relations, wellbeing and injury management.
  • Knowledge of relevant employment and Workcover legislation and the application in practice.
  • Awareness of remuneration approaches, best practice and industry trends.
  • Proven experience in providing tailored HR advice.
