The People and Culture function is seeking to grow the recently established Leadership Development team by appointing a Senior Consultant, Leadership Development. The Leadership Development team is part of the broader Change, Culture, Leadership and Organisational Development Team.

You will be arriving at Deakin at a transformational time; with the support of the Vice-Chancellor, Deakin is delivering on its significant commitment to leadership development. This is a rare opportunity for a proven practitioner in the capability development space to help develop leader capability and capacity. Working in a team, the Senior Consultant supports the achievement of Deakin’s strategic priorities through the delivery of impactful leadership development programs. In partnership with key stakeholders, the Senior Consultant will design, develop, facilitate, and evaluate University-wide leadership development programs. This role will closely collaborate with the Senior Manager Leadership Development to operationalise strategies and frameworks for leadership effectiveness within a complex organisation.

You will have the opportunity to lead the establishment of leadership programs for all levels of leadership, spanning the breadth of Professional, Academic, Senior and Executive leaders. While the Senior Manager Leadership Development will provide guidance and support, you will have autonomy in this position to use your experience, knowledge, and skills to determine how you will partner with stakeholders, vendors, and the Leadership Development team-members to bring the ambitious program of work to life. 

Your key responsibilities will include the need to:

  • Design and deliver engaging and impactful leadership development programs for university leadership cohorts, spanning the breadth of Professional, Academic, and Executive leaders.
  • Lead the design and development of high-quality leadership development solutions that leverage research and knowledge of the principles, theory and practice of adult learning and leadership development.
  • Lead the design and delivery of high-quality programs and workshops that build leadership capability, enhance strategic alignment, and improve workplace cultures.
  • Lead the curation of content to develop toolkits, guides, and self-service resources that support leaders.
  • Scope, design and facilitate bespoke leadership development initiatives, including delivery and debrief of psychometric assessments. Create tailored development plans whilst coaching for action.
  • Continuously improve participant experiences by taking an evidence-based approach to evaluation of program design and delivery.

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • A combination of relevant tertiary qualifications, preferably at post graduate level, and demonstrated significant and substantial experience in a senior leadership development or OD / L&D role in large and complex organisation or management and leadership consulting
  • Demonstrated success in the development and implementation of leadership development programs and initiatives that span aspiring to senior leadership and culture change
  • Demonstrated strong understanding of contemporary Leadership and OD concepts and strategies and the capacity to adapt and implement and apply these for the benefit of an organisation
  • Demonstrated understanding of the application of adult learning theory and principles of blended learning programs, and the ability to work with audiences from diverse backgrounds
  • Demonstrated high level influencing, advocacy, and facilitation skills as well as excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work autonomously, operating within broad objectives and providing advice and assistance to senior leaders
  • Ability to work with ambiguity on multiple projects, managing multiple relationships and deliver to tight time frames.
