About the Sydney Quantum Academy

The Sydney Quantum Academy (SQA) is a joint venture between The University of Sydney, The University of New South Wales, Macquarie University and University of Technology Sydney, to establish Sydney (and Australia) as a global destination for talent, investment, and innovation in relation to quantum technology and the future quantum economy. Collaborating with academia, industry, and government, SQA will harness Sydney’s collective quantum expertise to develop diverse talent and a globally recognised quantum ecosystem.

About the opportunity

As the Senior Marketing and Communications Officer, you will play a key role in supporting the Manager for Communications, Marketing and Media to achieve the Sydney Quantum Academy’s communications, marketing and media objectives. You will make a significant contribution to the strategy and development of SQA’s marketing and communications plan and ensure alignment with SQA’s overarching business plan objectives. The role includes media and marketing support for the annual Quantum Australia Conference and Careers Fair – Australia’s leading quantum industry conference. 

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • work within a small and dynamic team, reporting to the Manager, Communications, Marketing and Media

  • manage marketing and communications initiatives in support of SQA’s business plan objectives

  • identify, pitch, write and promote stories and cross-channel content to support business plan objectives and to raise SQA’s profile

  • in collaboration with the Manager, Communications, Marketing and Media, conceptualise and develop campaign plan and targets

  • actively manage and provide strategic input into event concepts, potential partners, and participants

  • maintain strong working relationships with staff at SQA Partner universities to ensure that marketing communications initiatives are communicated and understood

  • keep abreast of issues in the tertiary education, quantum environment, emerging marketing communications trends to provide high level advice and support.

About you

  • tertiary qualifications and/or relevant work experience in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field

  • demonstrated experience editing copy written by others to ensure a publication, print or online, is of a standard that meets editorial requirements and strategic objectives

  • demonstrated experience using social and digital media to reach and engage target audiences

  • demonstrated ability to write high quality communications and to tailor writing style for different audiences

  • strong experience in developing and executing integrated brand and product marketing communications campaigns across a broad range of mediums

  • demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with key internal stakeholders within a complex organisation

  • well-developed project management skills with the capacity to manage competing priorities, maintain attention to detail and to meet deadlines.

Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
