About the role

The role will work closely with the Manager, Cloud Engineering and the RMIT AWS Cloud Supercomputing Hub. The Senior Cloud Engineer AWS will be required to work collaboratively with customers throughout the University including within a virtual team structure. 

The Senior Cloud Engineer AWS will need to be results orientated; capable of taking an idea from its ideation phase to successful implementation, including planning under SAFe and SCRUM practices, solution design and Implementation using Cloudformation or Infrastructure as code. Ensuring outcomes meet Cloud team operational standards, are cost effective and most importantly align with customer requirements. 

As a member of the team, responsibilities will also include ensuring the AWS platform is well managed, ensuring the services hosted on the AWS platform is financially optimised, monitored and secure.

The individual will be required to embed service management into daily practices, ensure continuous improvement of infrastructure and assist in defining practices, processes and standards while adhering to organisational practices.

You will be required to provide design and consulting capability into RMIT AWS Cloud Supercomputing Hub.  The role will also require facilitation of technical ownership and support transition from projects in a manner conducive to the rapid and innovative way RMIT is now delivering technology. 

About you

To be able to be successful, the role will also require a solid understanding of supporting services and skills ranging from AWS networking, DNS, Cloud Security, monitoring, operating systems, scripting, monitoring, design and documentation.

To Be Successful in this Position, you’ll have

  • Experience in senior technical positions, operationally supporting AWS Platforms in large environments.
  • Experience taking ownership of a customer request/project from ideation to deliver technologically innovative solutions ensuring customer needs and operationalisation are achieved.
  • Ability to work cooperatively within a team, imparting knowledge and sharing experience with others. 
  • Well-developed project planning and management skills with the ability to work to a fixed time frame and effectively deliver outcomes that meet stakeholder requirements under critical time and budget constraints.
  • Proven experience in AWS solution design development and in-depth understanding of cloud Security best practices and architecture principles.
  • Expert level knowledge in AWS services to support maintain an AWS platform - Landing Zone, Control Tower, Transit Gateway, AWS Networking, permissions, CI/CD.
  • Experience in AWS services that support Data Analytics, such as SageMaker, lambda, S3, step functions.
  • Experience in delivering solutions as Infrastructure as Code (CloudFormation etc.) strong skills in JSON, Ruby, Python.
  • Sound knowledge of server infrastructure, operating systems, networking, virtualisation (VMWare), and cloud computing.
  • Experience with Agile, and DevOps concepts Developing monitoring architecture and implementing monitoring agents, dashboards, escalations and alerts.
