Your new role

The Senior Systems Engineer is a technical specialist that belongs to one of the specialist IT Operations teams that are responsible for ensuring that the University’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure servers, storage, directories, applications, managed workstations, audio visual (AV) and related services meet the University community’s service expectations. This senior role provides technical leadership, ensuring high availability and reliability of centrally managed infrastructure and services, and takes a lead role in capacity planning.
This position provides mentorship to more junior colleagues and could be based within one of several IT Operations teams. From time to time the incumbent may be required to move between different teams to be responsive to workload fluctuations.
In this role you will…

  • Provide technical leadership in the specification of appropriate functional, technical, and system design specifications to meet the needs of business areas.
  • Take the lead role in specific technology projects.
  • Mentor team members, providing a high level of technical advice and guidance.
  • Ensure high availability and performance of centrally managed ICT services by diagnosing complex problems, tuning to improve performance, maintaining and supporting the underlying University-wide ICT infrastructure, including liaison with ICT hardware and software vendors where advanced diagnosis is required.
  • Lead the planning and implementation of service continuity measures to ensure that business goals can be achieved even if a severe fault or serious incident occurs.
  • Take a lead role in the planning of ongoing capacity improvements to workstations, servers, storage, AV and network connections to ensure that the technological infrastructure continues to provide the services required by the University.
  • Take a lead in protecting the integrity of the ICT infrastructure, workstations, servers, AV and services by managing access, monitoring global ICT security news and technological developments, and acting on these using vendor advice and current technical knowledge.
  • Define and comprehensively document technology implementation standards, protocols and processes related to implemented technologies.
  • Provide expert technical advice to management and business owners.
  • Lead the evaluation of technology implementations comprehensively at Curtin, reporting on performance against goals, and recommending further continuous improvement actions.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships across all University ICT teams.
  • Undertake other activities which the incumbent might reasonably be expected to do, and which are consistent with the accountabilities and responsibilities as listed above.
  • Audio-visual Systems and associated elevation design development.
  • Audio-visual Systems documentation and coordination with customers and staff.
  • Client Engagement, including Briefing, User Requirements Analysis and Use Case Development.
  • Working with the Project Managers in implementing Time, Cost and Risk Management of assigned projects.
  • Actively participate in co-ordination meetings, inclusive of recording minutes and actions, and chasing action items to resolution.  
We are looking for someone with…
  • Completion of a relevant degree with extensive relevant experience or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in administering and maintaining one or more of the following in a large-scale production environment: AV.
  • Demonstrated extensive experience in large scale production environment support.
  • High level organisational skills and project management experience with an in-depth understanding of and commitment to using a structured approach to analysis, design.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team as well as provide technical leadership and mentoring to fellow team members.
  • Demonstrated advanced conceptual, analytical and problem solving skills with proven ability to contribute to the planning and achievement of business outcomes.
  • Well-developed communication (verbal, written) and interpersonal skills, a proven track record in and personal commitment to achieving the highest levels of client focus, along with proven ability to interact professionally with clients.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current and emerging technologies, management tools and techniques.
  • Infocomm CTS-D and or Infocomm CTS is desirable However Audio-Visual manufacturer design certifications desirable not essential.
