About the Portfolio

The newly formed Experience Organisation in RMIT, part of the Operations portfolio, is established to create great experiences and journeys for our Students, Researchers and Industry Partners. A key component of these journeys and experiences is delivered via our digital platforms.

The digital experiences however need to seamlessly integrate with on campus or staff assisted activities of our Students, Researchers, and Industry Partners.

Digital enablement and digital transformation are of increasing importance to the research, teaching and learning life of a university, particularly a ‘global university of technology and design’ like RMIT. Best in breed digital capabilities were established as part of the RMIT 2020 strategy. Within the context of the new 5-year strategic plans, these digital capabilities need further maturing to support:

The Role

In this role you will demonstrates experience in front-end development of complex and feature-rich Adobe Experience Manager sites.

You have experience developing user interfaces and user interface components to meet end-user needs, working closely with UX designers and business in an Agile delivery environment.

You will be contributing to front end development and design standards and will bring industry best practices and a continuous improvement attitude to the role.

• Work with designers to ensure understanding and feasibility of UI/UX designs.

• Develop new user-facing features.

• Build reusable code and libraries for future use.

• Optimize application for maximum speed and scalability.

• Assure that all user input is validated before submitting to back-end.

• Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders.

• AA/AAA Accessibility focused

• Championing unit test and feature level front end automation across browsers and devices

Skills & Experience

• Proficiency with front-end technologies: HTML5, ES6, CSS3/Sass, Bootstrap.

• 2+ years of commercial front-end web development using latest JavaScript frameworks such as Vue.js or React.

• 2+ years JavaScript (vanilla and React JS) experience.

• Solid understanding of HTML, CSS (SASS etc).

• Understanding of Webpack, Node JS.

• Good Understanding of GIT.

• Strong software engineering fundamentals.

• Write performant, testable, reusable code.

• Experience building responsive websites.

• Strong understanding of digital accessibility.

• Experience working with AEM 6.4 and above.

• Experience working with API integrations via REST and JSON.

• Experience writing quality unit tests with JavaScript frameworks such as Jest.

• Ability to effectively identify and rectify the source of problems independently.

• Experience working with product management and UI/UX designers.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to work in a dynamic, fast moving and growing environment.

• Working knowledge of the general web landscape, architectures, trends, and emerging technologies.

• Solid understanding of the full web development life cycle in a Scrum team.

• Critical thinker and problem-solving skills.

• Team player and good time-management skills.

• Great interpersonal and communication skills.
