The People portfolio here at UniSQ continues to evolve, transform and design innovative, connected, and forward-thinking People related services, strategies, frameworks and practices. We proactively seek to engage and professionally partner with the University’s leadership team, employees, and other key stakeholders to provide guidance and that is focused on a wide range of people related challenges.

Our Workplace relations team is responsible for providing timely and specialist advice to manage complex workplace relations matters and play an educative role to increase knowledge and ensure compliance with statutory obligations to mitigate industrial and workplace relations risks. This team is supported by a broad range of specialist People Portfolio functions which includes Payroll, Wellness, Capability and Recruitment and Senior People Partners, all who collaborate in connecting the People needs of the University to deliver robust people related outcomes in support of our strategic plan.

About You:

  • Demonstrated ability and eagerness to work independently and take initiative to support and provide robust, specialist advice and guidance across a wide range of Workplace challenges and issues.
  • You are an established, confident communicator with the ability to earn trust and credibility which translates to sustainable performance related outcomes.
  • Are comfortable in providing and sharing invaluable insights and experiences that are underpinned by risk mitigated advice that supports business leaders to appropriately engage with their staff.

What you’ll do:

  • Engage with the UniSQ employee community and regularly provide interpretation and advice on relevant employment legislation, including the University’s Enterprise Agreement and associated policies and how this legislation translates into operational practice.
  • Provide strategic advice and direction to leaders on complex workplace relations issues that encompass disciplinary matters, grievances that then result in performance management.
  • Foster a culture of education and understanding whilst adhering to UniSQ policies and procedures.
  • Build and maintain relationships with other sector professionals to keep pace with contemporary workplace relations developments an associated impacts.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of the Workplace Relations function that reflects education in developing leadership capability.

Your work experiences and qualifications will showcase:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in law and/or human resources with extensive experience; including specialist expertise or broad knowledge and application of employee relations and human resources.
  • Current knowledge of the Australian Industrial relations framework, including employment-related legislation, including anti-discrimination, employment and workplace health and safety, as well as experience in the development, review, interpretation and application of human resources policies and procedures, awards and industrial agreements.
  • Demonstrated capability and experience in end-to-end response and management of complex workplace relations cases.
