About the Role

Are you passionate about student welfare and wellbeing? Join our dedicated team at RMIT as a Senior Advisor, Case Coordination, where you will provide senior operational responses and manage urgent and complex support needs for our students, including those under 18.

In this role, you will be accountable for coordinating timely and effective service to support the welfare and wellbeing of RMIT students. You will co-manage the day-to-day operations of the RMIT Staff Line, a crucial resource for staff to address urgent student support needs and manage critical incidents involving students. This dedicated contact point ensures that staff concerns about student welfare are addressed promptly and effectively.

Your role requires the capacity to respond rapidly, sensitively, and creatively to complex, extreme, and unpredictable situations, mitigating psychosocial risk associated with student mental ill-health. This involves direct contact with students, balancing organisational accountabilities, and working collaboratively within and across teams at RMIT, and at times, engaging with external providers.

What You’ll Bring to the Role:

  • Expertise in Mental Health Assessments: Proven experience with evidence-based bio-psycho-social assessments and risk evaluations, including suicide and violence risk.

  • Clinical Reasoning and Decision-Making: Strong skills in providing student-centred support, referrals, and treatment plans that empower students to enhance their wellbeing.

  • Organisational Skills: Demonstrated ability to manage complex caseloads and coordinate effectively with multiple internal and external stakeholders, balancing individual needs with organisational accountabilities. 

  • Team Collaboration: Exceptional interpersonal and resilience skills, with a track record of working cooperatively and flexibly within a team, building strong relationships and networks.

  • Technical Proficiency: Experience with large-scale enterprise systems and databases, with accurate data entry and process documentation skills, maintaining sensitive information according to standards.

  • Commitment to Excellence: A proactive approach to promoting a culture of safety, quality, and innovation, with a dedication to continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • A degree OR a postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline and/or significant relevant professional experience at a similar level.

  • Current full registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Registration Agency (AHPRA) OR Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).

Desirable:

  • Mental Health accreditations in Social Work or Psychology

  • Experience working in the post-secondary education system and the issues facing diverse student cohorts in a dual sector environment.
