About the role


The Senior Adviser (Governance, Strategy and Partnerships) will bear responsibility for Australian Technology Network’s (ATN) Governance portfolio, critical to supporting our strategy to become Australia’s most trusted university grouping. The Senior Adviser will provide vital capabilities in governance, strategy, impact measurement, financial management, project management and relationship management to ensure proper governance of internal and external strategic partnerships. The incumbent will be responsible for cultivating an effective governance framework and driving the process of ATN becoming an incorporated body.

This senior role will also serve as a custodian for ATN’s annual report, ATN’s strategic plan, ATN’s Governance Agreement and ATN’s established partnerships. The incumbent will work in collaboration with university General Counsels, Chief Financial Officers, HR Directors and Chief Digital Officers to inform ATN stakeholders of governance requirements. This senior role will ensure relevant legal and compliance obligations are fulfilled by ATN member universities and external partners, including those relating to ATN’s incorporation process.

The role will be an important senior relationship manager, working directly with senior executives and sector leaders from external organisations to develop and deliver ethical and effective partnerships aligned with ATN strategy and compliant with ATN’s governance framework and budget.

To be successful in this position, you’ll have:

  • Relevant postgraduate qualification or equivalent combination of education, knowledge, skills and demonstrated experience at an appropriate level.
  • Extensive experience in governance and risk, including legal arrangements, third party contracting, insurance, compliance and probity.
  • Demonstrated project management experience including developing project plans and meeting project objectives within the required timeframes.
  • Highly developed interpersonal, facilitation and negotiation skills, including the demonstrated ability to manage stakeholders at all levels, both internal and external to the organisation.
  • Highly developed experience with budgets and financial management along with development of Annual Reports.
  • Highly developed communication skills and experience with writing reports, submissions, speeches, discussion papers, and strategic plans.
  • Demonstrated flexibility, initiative and the ability to operate strategically within a busy and complex environment, to deal effectively with competing demands and to produce high quality responses within limited timeframes.
  • Demonstrated high level of initiative, tact, diplomacy and confidentiality.
  • There may be some travel involved in this role.
