About the opportunity 

Sydney Pharmacy School in the Faculty of Medicine and Health (FMH) is seeking a new academic staff member at Lecturer or Senior Lecturer level to lead outstanding research programs and deliver high quality teaching in the area of pharmacology. The successful candidate will join a strong team of pharmacy academics and researchers, responsible for providing training in pharmacology, pharmaceutical science and therapeutics to students across medicine, dentistry, nursing, pharmacy, medical science and science.  Here, you will have the opportunity to work within the health sector and also across the University of Sydney’s multidisciplinary initiatives, such as the Charles Perkins Centre, Sydney Nano Institute, Drug Discovery Initiative and the Brain and Mind Centre. 

This role will allow you to develop independent research and to display research leadership. You will also contribute to research-enriched learning and teaching activities, especially in the area of pharmaceutical development, as well as engaging with the health sector, therapeutics industry and the broader community.

  • holds a PhD in a relevant field such as pharmacology and pharmaceutical sciences;

  • demonstrates a contribution to independent and collaborative research with evidence that this research has had national impact;

  • has a publication record in high-quality journals relevant to the field of pharmacology, pharmaceutical science and related cognate disciplines;

  • can provide inspirational teaching within the broad area of pharmacology, therapeutics and drug development in both undergraduate and postgraduate courses across the FMH;

  • can establish independent and collaborative research programs that complement the school’s existing research strengths.

To be considered for the Senior Lecturer classified as a Level C level position we will also require that you:

  • are acknowledged at a national level as influential in expanding knowledge within the discipline and/or in pedagogical or curriculum innovation

  • have an established network of relationships with key academic, industry and professional institutions, partners and stakeholders that can be leveraged to enhance the standing of the discipline, School/ Faculty and University

  • have demonstrated excellence in research, scholarly activities relevant to the discipline and educational design and practice

  • have significant experience in supervising others and coordinating team activities including unit of study coordination

  • have a developing knowledge and understanding of the key strategic issues in the higher education sector

Your employment is conditional upon the completion of all role required pre-employment or background checks in terms satisfactory to the University. Similarly, your ongoing employment is conditional upon the satisfactory maintenance of all relevant clearances and background check requirements. If you do not meet these conditions, the University may take any necessary step, including the termination of your employment.

For a continuing position, you must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or an Australian Permanent Resident. Australian Temporary Residents may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
