About the Role 
Join us as a Senior Special Consideration Administration Officer, where you'll play a vital role in improving systems and processes to uphold quality in assessing special consideration applications.
Reporting to the Coordinator, Special Consideration, you'll address formal student complaints and serve as the escalation point within the Student Equity and Disability Services Team. You'll be tasked with analysing data, spotting trends, and suggesting evidence-based improvements to our services. Your responsibilities will include: 


  • Actioning Special consideration applications within agreed policy timeframes.  
  • Helping to manage escalated special consideration applications within the team and conduct reviews requested by students and relevant services. 
  • Ensuring timely, accurate, and comprehensive record-keeping using administrative systems for inquiries, bookings, case-notes, and information management, adhering to Privacy legislation and University policies. 
  • Generating regular reports (daily, weekly, monthly) for the Coordinator, Special Consideration, aiding in workflow planning and response to demand.  

Who we are looking for 
Are you a compassionate and empathetic communicator, adept at supporting students facing various challenges, stress, and anxiety in their academic journey? We're seeking someone with a demonstrated ability to engage sensitively with students, including those with mental health issues and neurodiverse backgrounds, while being mindful of intersecting factors. Your excellent interpersonal and communication skills, along with strong problem-solving abilities and sound judgment in policy application, are essential for this role. 

You will also have: 


  • Tertiary qualification or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education/training.  
  • Strong organisational skills including a demonstrated ability to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines, and work effectively and efficiently with high volume processing  
  • Knowledge of and ability to effectively utilise large complex databases, such as CRM and student systems and to ensure accurate records are maintained.  
  • Proficient skills in case note taking and record keeping.

Student and Scholarly Services provides student administration and services from recruitment and point of enquiry to graduation.  This team also delivers wellbeing and scholarly services to students and staff.​ 

The Student Equity and Disability Services (SEDS) is in the Wellbeing Services portfolio, which includes the University’s Health Service, Counselling and Psychological Services (CAPS), and the Chaplaincy service. SEDS is responsible for providing educational adjustments for students with a disability or health condition, are carers of a person with a disability, are defence reservists or emergency volunteers or for cultural or religious observance which impact their ability to participate fully in their studies. SEDS also under the authority of the Academic Registrar and processes eligibility for Special consideration applications on behalf of Academic Divisions.
