About the International Centre for Point-of-Care Testing
The International Centre for Point-of-Care Testing work collaboratively with national and international partners to improve health care, access to pathology testing, and improve health outcomes. The Centre works to translate the national research and teaching expertise in the field of community based POCT to other national and international audiences, and as a result, build the capacity of rural and remote communities globally (particularly Indigenous communities) to develop solutions to improve both health service delivery and patient outcomes in their communities.
About the Role
The International Centre for Point-of-Care Testing at Flinders University is looking for a talented Scientific Officer to join the team and support the infectious diseases program. You will have responsibility for educating health care workers in quality-assured Point-Of-Care-Testing (POCT) operations at a range of sites including remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health services, metropolitan Drug and Alcohol health services and Justice health services. You will also provide technical support and quality assurance related to point-of-care testing devices, including external and internal quality control. In achieving program outcomes, you will assist in data management and research, project planning meetings with key partners and stakeholders, and preparing material for publications such as government reports and website material. As a Scientific Officer some interstate travel and out-of-hours work may be required.
About You
To be successful as a Scientific Officer you will be an experienced scientific researcher and analyser, capable of working autonomously and maintaining accurate records of your research. You have a strong knowledge of Point-Of-Care Testing, routine pathology testing and its application in the primary care sector. You are an excellent communicator and conduct your work in a culturally appropriate manner, understanding that you may need to amend practices with different groups of people you work with.
In addition, you will also demonstrate:
A Bachelor of Medical Science or equivalent degree in a relevant field and subsequent relevant experience.
Sound computing skills and the ability to conduct literature surveys and access web-based information.
Proficiency with information and communication technology systems including effectively using a range of Microsoft Office applications, with particular emphasis on Outlook, Word, Excel PowerPoint, and Teams.
Practical experience in training health professionals (desirable)
