International Centre for Point-of-Care Testing
The International Centre for Point-of-Care Testing work collaboratively with national and international partners to improve health care, access to pathology testing, and improve health outcomes.
The Centre works to translate the national research and teaching expertise in the field of community based POCT to other national and international audiences, and as a result, build the capacity of rural and remote communities globally (particularly Indigenous communities) to develop solutions to improve both health service delivery and patient outcomes in their communities.

About the Role
The Scientific Officer will provide support for delivery of program key performance indicators for the infectious disease POCT Programs of the Centre, including but not limited to the National Australian Hepatitis C Point-of-Care Testing program. This role will include the delivery of point-of-care testing and associated training, quality management and competency assessment of health workers at a range of sites including, but not limited to, regional and remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health services, metropolitan Drug and Alcohol services and Justice health services.
About You
To be successful as a Scientific Officer you will be an experienced scientific researcher and analyser, capable of working autonomously and maintaining accurate records of your research. You have a strong knowledge of Point-Of-Care Testing, routine pathology testing and its application in the primary care sector. You are an excellent communicator and conduct your work in a culturally appropriate manner, understanding that you may need to amend practices with different groups of people you work with.
In addition, you will also demonstrate:
A Bachelor of Medical Science or equivalent degree in a relevant field and subsequent relevant experience
An understanding and performance of point-of-care testing and its application in the primary care sector and principles and practise of routine pathology testing
Capability to perform capillary specimen collection procedures and carry out diagnostic POCT testing is highly desirable
Proficiency with information and communication technology systems including effectively using a range of Microsoft Office applications, with particular emphasis on Outlook, Word, Excel PowerPoint and Teams.

It is an inherent requirement of the position that the successful candidate maintains hepatitis serology testing to determine protective levels are maintained and where necessary undertake initial vaccination or booster vaccination required by WHS requirements for blood borne viruses (BBV) exposure during client blood collection.
