About the team
Technical Services provides discipline specific, applied knowledge and skill sets to support UWA’s teaching and research goals in unison with our academic staff. This position sits within the Cell Biology & Imaging Platform. It comprises of core facilities across multiple sites. The core facilities include the Crawley Cell & Molecular Biology facility, the Crawley Imaging capabilities, the Crawley Histology ) facility, the Oral Health Centre of WA (OHCWA) Dental Research Lab, Royal Perth Hospital Research Foundation (RPHRF) and Perkins nodes. This platform provides a resource for both research staff and research students in the form of access, training and services.

About the opportunity
As the appointee , you will provide high level of discipline specific technical expertise and support to academics, technical and students for any practical activities or research productivity. You will, under broad direction, administer the access to the shared research facility of the School, including budgeting, planning, organisation and services. You will provide advice and training to the area, respond to complex and diverse enquiries, independently analyse and solve problems and provide expert advice.

To be considered for this role, you will demonstrate:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification or demonstrated equivalent competency
  • Substantial relevant technical experience at an appropriate level
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly developed organisational skills and demonstrated ability to set priorities and to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently, show initiative and work productively as part of a team
  • Demonstrated ability in implementing a range of policies and procedures to support teaching and research from a technical and scientific perspective

About you
To be successful in this position, it is highly desirable that you have the following:

  • Substantial relevant laboratory management experience at an appropriate level.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of safety issues relating to the use of laboratory equipment and chemicals
  • Experience relevant to biological research including molecular biology techniques, imaging and tissue culture
  • Experience relevant to dental research including (but not limited to) biomaterials, regenerative dentistry, or oral microbiology
