About the School of Education

The School of Education has a long and distinctive history of progressive and socially engaged teaching and research in education. The school provides for the professional preparation of teachers and educators in early childhood, primary, secondary, community, vocational and higher education.

The AQTI is an alternative professional experience program for high-performing primary and secondary preservice teachers. The AQTI is funded by the Victorian Department of Education and Training (DET) and is delivered by La Trobe University (LTU) School of Education, in partnership with DET schools.

Preservice teachers apply to take part in the program in the final two years of their undergraduate program. Selected participants receive enhanced preparation for professional experience in hard-to-staff regional, rural and urban low SES Secondary schools.

This preparation includes short courses in reading, mental health in schools, and children who challenge, as well as cohort development activities and reflective readings about relevant inclusion issues. Through the program preservice teachers will then have enhanced professional experience placements at regional, rural and urban low SES Secondary schools. These enhanced experiences will include additional mentoring during placements, school visits from LTU staff, and a community connections program.

This position presents an exciting opportunity for the successful incumbent to work with the AQTI team to coordinate the delivery of the AQTI program, including developing partnerships with schools, promoting the program, supporting the cohort of preservice teachers in the program, and evaluating the impact of the program.
