THE ROLE

The Faculty of Science and Engineering is seeking a strategic and collaborative Operations Manager to manage, plan and deliver operational and administrative support services for the School of Engineering.

Working within a professional and dedicated team of peers and reporting to the Head of Faculty Operations, you will:

  • Contribute to the development of the Schools strategy and lead the development, drafting and implementation of operational and resourcing plans

  • In consultation with the Dean of Engineering and key stakeholders, build and contribute to the development of the annual School budget and oversee day-to-day financial and budget administration

  • In conjunction with key stakeholders, oversee and manage operational support for staff, students (including HDR’s), honoraries, visitors and volunteer’s across their respective lifecycles

  • Provide high-quality advice to the Dean of Engineering and support the development of business plans, business cases and applications for funding

  • Lead, coach and develop a team of professional staff and build a service-focused high-performance culture

You will be a strategic thinker with strong leadership capability to build and develop high performing service-oriented teams. You will bring your own management expertise in higher education and administration along with the demonstrated ability to translate strategy into operational plans and guide others in the implementation of these.

You will possess strong conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills and be known for your sound judgement and decision making and possess the ability to articulate and communicate concepts, information and advice effectively.

You will have developed strong relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders and be comfortable embracing and fostering change. You will have an understanding and appreciation of diverse cultures, along with a commitment to fostering respect and empathy within the university community.

The Faculty of Science and Engineering is a young and dynamic faculty driven by the spirit of discovery. Here we nurture the next generation of science and technology innovators. From a handful of students on the University’s first day, the Faculty now serves nearly 6000 students across all our programs.

The School of Engineering is at the forefront of Engineering education nationally and internationally and is going through significant transformation including the construction of $150 million education and research precinct which will be the home of School of Engineering.

Our research and teaching addresses the big issues faced by society in Australia and globally – the changing environment, future materials and fuels, biotechnology, cyber security, to name a few.

  • Relevant tertiary qualification/s and or equivalent experience

  • Demonstrated ability to plan at both strategic and operational levels with organisational skills to negotiate, manage financial and physical resources and ensure the delivery of programs and services

  • Proven ability to work as part of a management team in higher education, provide leadership, and encourage a collaborative and cooperative work environment

  • Extensive experience in building and leading high performing teams with a strong customer service focus and the capacity to embrace and foster change

  • Proven ability to exercise initiative and autonomous judgement along with highly developed conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to innovate

  • Highly developed written and verbal communications skills

Due to the nature of this role, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a criminal history check.

Appointment Type: Full-time, continuing

Salary Package: Level 8 from $115,030 to $127,995 per annum, plus 17% superannuation
