The Opportunity

The MSMH Safety and Compliance Manager plays a crucial role in providing Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) guidance and support to various individuals and organisations within MSMH and SAMPLE. This includes commercial companies, Monash staff, students, and visitors. Working closely with the MSMH Concierge Service and other safety officers, their responsibilities involve ensuring compliance with legal requirements and university policies, maintaining a safe environment, and proactively identifying and addressing potential risks through collaboration with the University OH&S team and management.

As the successful candidate, you will be responsible for fostering a culture of safety and compliance, ensuring all occupants are aware of their responsibilities and adhere to OHS requirements. You will develop and maintain the OHS management plan for MSMH, SAMPLE, and Digital Twin Labs. Additionally, you will coordinate emergency responses, establish OHS committees, and provide risk mitigation support. You will also develop and implement safety procedures, guidelines, and training to ensure consistent practices across the MSMH and SAMPLE, encompassing both commercial and Monash-run spaces.

The appointee will have a tertiary qualification in Applied Chemistry, or substantial relevant skills and work experience, or formal qualifications in Occupational Health & Safety or a related field, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training. Moreover, familiarity and experience with SDS, RA and incident reporting databases and tools, such as Chemwatch and SARAH will be highly regarded.
